Totally amateurs!
They don't know anything about MG-ROVER!

I ordered (with writen list, not orally):
-MGF mk1 oil temp sensor
-MGF mk1 wiper motor
-ROVER 75 1.8 16V auto gearbox PR010 VERY RARE AND EXPENSIVE

I received:
-3X MG TF... water temp sensors
-MG TF wiper motor
-Rover 75 1.8T auto gearbox PR014 NOT SO RARE SO NOT EXPENSIVE

After my complaints:
- they don't have more sensors
- they sent me an MGF mk1 wiper but... faulty
- They told me that 1.8T gbox fits to 1.8 16v car. I did it and fits indeed BUT IT WAS FAULTY AS WEL!!!

When i told them that the gbox (and all other parts) are faulty they accept to send it back for full refund.
In the midtime the 45 days of the Paypal protection lost in the fitment and delivery time as i am in Greece.

After so much time wasted and hassle they refused to refund for the parts. They just offered me a silly amount!

Needless to say that after the fautly gbox i couldn't find the manager on the phone...

TOTAL MONEY LOST £575
£455 for the parts
£120 gbox delivery back to UK

STAY AWAY!!

Sorry about Kostas's loss.

Frankly, I had bad experiences with UK breakers. In my case, they sent me a very rusty, scratched, dirty and badly packaged oil sump, way different that the auction photo, for a pretty sum of money.

My feeling is that a lot of people act with impunity when there is a lot of physical distance with the interlocutor.

Heard bad stories about them before! Had the pleasure of looking round there yard a couple of times! Was after a bumper and they tried to sell me a scratched one saying it would polish out! When I asked the fella to get me one down from the top of some racking to look at he through it to the ground badly scratching that one aswell!

I'm confused, what are the Pro10 and Pro14 codes you refer too?

Afaik the 75 autos all use the same Jatco Auto box so it will fit any auto 75. I also thought the Jatco was only used on the 75.

Of course I could be completely wrong.

As for the breakers it does seem they are being unreasonable.

Are you fitting the gearbox to a 75 or trying to fit it an MGF?

Exactly! In this e bay age, its great to go and lookat/touch what you are buying, and some rogue traders can take advantage of distance. I too had a recent issue with a well known supplier, who swore blind a different coloured bonnet and wing had come off the same vehicle and were the same colour. Rude and aggressive when I disagreed. Idiot. Details on request PM me. He does advertise on here.

Interesting as Parts Gateway list them as RB Ltd and they have returned the best quote for me in comparison to the other suppliers and are the only ones with the right colour in stock. I WAS going to order from them via Parts Gateway, but am a bit hesitant now. It's too far for me to go pick it up :(

Well I have bought an engine from Rover Breakers Ltd in Hull , and every thing was fine, also very helpful.
I have sent a few of my friends to them, all of them was very happy with service.
Not every one is perfect so maybe some of you guys have problem but I've never had any problems.

My brother picked us up a trailing arm for the ZT a few years back and said they were a shoddy outfit and hadnt got much clue - I spoke to an indian sounding fella on the phone when I ordered

What I got was good and cheap , my only complaint was that they chopped the lead off the ABS sensor

My old boy had an engine fitted there. The only reason I didn't do it was the logistics of it, so, it was a cdti lump, come back to me with a diesel leak (broke the fuel filter housing) loose connectors, broken brackets, loose hoses, clogged breather filter, old oil!!!

It took me a day and a half to rectify all the faults THEY caused doing the swap!!

I know it wasn't like that before hand, as I had covered 20k in the car and sold it on to my old man!!

And just for the record, accepting cash does not make one a tax dodger ;)........

Not declaring it does lol

Kostas if you need any bits I recomend a company by me who sponsor the Merseyside Meets, its Chester MG-ROVER Specialists, they are on facebook at the moment and they offer a fantastic service, don't see why they won't post to you. ;)
I too can recommend these chaps. Used them myself only last Saturday (17/08/13).
Couple of great lads to talk to, and knowledgeable.
Got myself a set of balance and power vis motors. Ended up talking for around an hour about all things MG Rover.

I'm not sure what nationality has to do with it..

There are bad companies everywhere run by people from all over the world

When I bought my TF160 engine the seller promised me it was complete on the subframe and the engine code was deffo 160 with 47k on the clock

I paid the £600 plus delivery (nervously)

It arrived and was indeed as described. But I still felt 'lucky' if that makes sense

Loads of rip off breakers about. Cheers for the heads up

Sharing bad experiences on here is a good idea

I agree with diesel destroyer, it has nothing to do with nationality. It's simply receiving the items you pay for in working order! Surely if they are a registered business, then trading standards can be made aware of this? Kostas, did you pay for your stuff via Paypal? From my experience as an eBay trader, they more often then not, side with the buyer over the seller, so open a case? Do they not offer a guarantee? Most reputable breakers offer at least 60 days nowadays and should also cover the return postage if the part is faulty!!

I would take it further and then find a more reputable company to deal with in the future.

Me too. Whenever I phoned to ask where my order was they say it had been damaged so they were waiting for another one to arrive. Then when I asked for a refund they said it would take a couple of days for the manager to authorise it and now they claim they have new admin staff and that my order number isn't on the system. And so it goes on...

Fortunately there are some good breakers around that have been nothing less than perfect in providing other parts I've needed...
Gary at Chester MG Rover and Terry Shaw at TSAutos, stand up and take a bow!

Many cars arrive at breaker yards on a flatbed or with a tow so no way could the operators know if their various parts are fit for re-use with most of the cars in their premises. So, a gearbox looks alright. They take a chance sending it 'blind' untried hoping that they will have a satisfied customer. That is bad business practice and a good way to destroy any goodwill a business may have in no time as the word gets around.

During my fifty odd years of employment I worked all over the UK and came in contact with many folks from a wide range of backgrounds and customs. There is no doubt that in some areas culture and background standards leave something to be desired. Thus I am both cautious and careful when necessary.

Here in Gloucester area we have a few car breakers who I use and all are good generally but one operates on a very fine and fair basis. Money back or replace no questions asked. That breaker never sells stuff over the net or anywhere, strictly parts only and remove them yourself on site. Those seeking parts come from all over the country as they know they will get good value. They are very helpful and will provide a range of facilities and jacking services if you ask nicely. H and S issues mean you cannot jack up a car yourself now as I have done for years. If they see you entering with a trolley jack, they mark your card and provide a staff member with a jack. An ambulance was called there one time when I was removing parts. Some poor sod had not been sufficiently careful. Easily done so been very careful at all times. If you are working under a car and some heavyweight eastern European decides to take a running short cut over that car ... asking for trouble. How did I know he was an eastern European? He had earlier asked to borrow one of my tools. I loaned it to him with a request that he did not leave the country before returning it ... ;) He did not get the joke ... some people eh ... mind you, language barriers may play a part there ... ;)

Parts are marked up when you pay for them and on the few occasions I've returned one not up to scratch, refund or replacement without hesitation. My father first took schoolboy me there in the early 1950s when needing parts for this car, which is still alive and well ... unlike my dear old Dad... ;)

Back luck to our Grecian OPer ... However, there are some good, reliable folks and traders out there, the trick is finding them... ;)

Having gone way beyond a joke in listening to the excuses of why MGRover Spares in Hull cannot provide me with a refund I am now about to start taking them to small claims court to recover my money.
Can you believe one of the latest reasons why they cannot process my refund was because I must have ordered something during the three months this year when their computers weren't working and they've lost the paperwork they did by hand!
Anyway, along with the legal claim I will also be sending a copy of my grievance to the Trading Standards Authority as it appears it is not just me that has had troubles with these people taking money and never shipping goods. To this end, are any other people out there with similar experiences of them prepared to send a little synopsis of their own grievance that can be compiled with the letter to Trading Standards?
Just for clarity, I am referring to MG ROver Spares Ltd of Air Street, HU5 1RR.
