Hello all ,

Had the misfortune of the mass air flow sensor on my MG ZT CDTI failing while on the outside lane of the M40 last weekend , as you can imagine the sudden loss of power caused me to say a few choice words . Managed to get it onto the hard shoulder and ring the RAC , the guy managed to diagnoise the problem within the hour and disconnected the mass air flow sensor . He advised that the ZT would run quicker with the sensor disconnected and to get it replaced asap . Going to book the car in this week to get it replaced at £180. My question is however does it need replacing ???? The ZT runs great with it disconnected ,very smooth and with that bit of extra power , would leaving the sensor disconnected cause any long term damage ????

Cheers.

Mass air flow detector.! where is this situated to ?

Regarding the chat about the Mass air flow indicator. Where is this component located, and what does it look like. I might need to fix it one day, also a replacement @ £180 seems a bit rich. I wonder if this component is repairable like the ECU!

Regards Tony.

MAF's

Think you will find Xpart now have new supplies from another supplier and reckon it is reliable, unlike the Bosch original. Good thing is the price has come down to around £60 - £70.
Understand it is very easy to fit if you have the correct 'torx type' bit for the fixings. Am sure someone will describe the correct bit.
