hello i was just wondering how many miles should i normally expect out of a standard rover 200 ?

i'm getting around 70 to 80 miles out of a tenna

at 79.9 pence per litre
thats 12.52 litres

70 to 80 miles per 12 to 13 litres of unleaded

my brother reckons it should be around 90 to 100 easily

thanx

economy

am i giving it to many revs cause the car is a real sweet runner.

i sometimes hover around 3 - 4000 rpm from 2nd to 5th maybe its just that

ill have to be sensible

by the way were you drivin basically to the speed limit with it ?

ive tried real hard but soon as there are no cars i cant help but go faster.

I am getting around 180 miles to twenty quid. It has been a lot lot less then that recently but since ive been sticking to the speed limit everywhere recently and only toeing it once in a while its picked up no end.

I get roughly the same kinda mileage - 80 ish per £10 - when doing mostly shorter runs.

This tankfull is the first I've had since moving my k&n away from the throttle body & added a second cold air feed (or to be more exact, moved the k&n over the bottom half of the standard airbox). Have now done 315 miles and aint in the red yet.......something over 100 miles to the tenner.

hmmm, makes me think I should have moved the k&n a wee bit sooner.

I was alos thinking about this... Ive got a 216 si 98' and the tank is quite big.. around £35 i think, im just about half a cm under the half way mark and done 200 odd miles ish. but the tank was completely empty when i picked it up from the garage. So on my first tank id say im doing a little under 100 miles per tenner

Sounds like you already have a similar set up for your air filter (ie placed over the old airbox). Adding another cold air source can only help I guess.

Think the difference in mpg I gained was just from getting the filter away from the worst of the engine bay heat > leads to cooler & denser air going in > better mpg

It's better to brim the tank each time and zero the trip to work out fuel economy.
I usually get between 37 and 44mpg in a Mk3 '96 214Si depending the mix of journey lengths.
On a decent run with a bit more care, I can get over 45mpg.
That seems amazing to me. As I say, I get about 27-30 mpg. Have just got off the phone to a chap at a Rover garage who has been looking at my car who says you would expect about 35 for town driving.

His diagnosis (so far) was to tighten the screws in the engine management system, after the system recorded a coolant fault, and to reset the codes. Hopefully this means the choke will stop pouring so much fuel through.

This post may not be beneficial to the original poster, but I'm a little confused while reading this...

Am I right in thinking (I assume this from what I've read) that fitting a K&N filter increases the mpg?
I used to get ~200 miles to £10 but that was mostly driving on motorways and 60mph roads (I drove at around 55mph - the manual that came with my car says 56mph is best for mpg?) but I've been pushing it a bit of late - something I really should stop doing as it's supping more petrol lol.

My 416 seems even better. Driving to the south coast of France a couple of years ago, fully laden with the family, aircon on and cruising at a steady 85-90mph I was getting about 44-45mpg. Was looking at filling uparound the 400mile mark on the trip.
But where I am, our rush hour is when you get stuck behind the cows going for milking. I get high 30s from the 200 on the regular 6.5 miles to work going between towns with a bit of running about. I always brim the tank and do a quick mental calc to check the consumption. It's not a bad guide for the general health of an engine.

Ive been getting around 55-60 miles per £5 recently, this is a mix of short runs and dual carriageway and country roads.

I once got 47mpg on a run to Cardiff , I rekon after my servicing and so on that ive done it would be more like 50mpg on a similar run. I have to say the 1.1 K Series is bloody good , loves being taken to 5000-6000revs and even sounds quite sporty.

very true... the squeal noise it makes when its being pushed a bit is reminiscent of watching the TOCA touring cars on telly :p

Its a lovely engine compared to the bag of nails Ford CVH in the Fiesta and the ridicoulous sounding 1.2 8v Corsa unit, it really does sound like an hairdrier but just less powerfull 0-60 in 18 seconds brum brum :D .

0-60 in 13 seconds , 100 mph (do able but not nice) and 45mpg can't argue with that for a 1.1. Not looking forward to taking three family members and an oversized suitcase on Monday to the airport. I think I will need to take the rear mudflaps off as they will catch under that load.

lol definitely!
I'm about to work out my MPG when I top my petrol up tomorrow after work. My petrol gauge is a little knackered (i.e. shows half full when its completely full and it stays half full for ages, then goes up as I drive, then goes down a bit and back up - I'm not even going up/down hills here either lol) but my mileage is a good guide - I always reset it after a fill-up to monitor it :)

It is a good engine definitely - and the metro/100 is so easy to drive compared to most others in the range.

Yer they are really easy to drive considering how you have to sit and the fact its not got an hydralic clutch. The new shape Reno Clio I learnt in was awful to drive , it was really hard work, no sense of speed , sloppy gearbox always put it in 3rd when TRYING to get 5th. Going back to the 100 after doing the Pass Plus in the Clio was great, it just feels so direct and easy to drive.
