had the car service and they told me the back pads are 70% worn and they need changing. am I right in thinking that if the car has done 25000 miles and had 70% ware. 30% of 25000 miles is 7500 miles so I have around 7000ish miles till then need changing? I have had a look and they look ok????????????
I would suggest you get them changed just to be on the safe side, it's very cheap and easy, perhaps you could do it yourself, or I would be happy to do it for you if you are local?
The minimum pad thickness is 3mm. However, depending on type, they do occasionaly tend to crumble and break away as they get thinner. If this happens its new disks as well.
the general concsensus is to change the pads at 5mm thickness to avoid any defficiences in braking performance, so get your ruler out with the wheel off!!
and have a crack yourself at changing pads if the disks are ok, plenty of howto's on here so you'd be surprised how easy it is. just takes a little time and effort!
The other thing to watch is that on the rear the inner pad ware rate is much higher then the outer pads.
