Hello everybody.
I would be extremely grateful if you can instruct me how to get over my immobiliser being jammed on permanently. I am disabled, unable to work & have little money, so I cannot afford to get a garage to sort it out for me.
I have a M Reg Rover 414 si 16V. There was a problem with the alarm/immobiliser when I bought the car from a garage a year or so ago. They told me not to use the key fob at all & to lock/unlock the car using the key as there is a fault with a unit in the driver's door. The central locking is not activated by locking the driver's door with the key, so I have to lock the other three doors manually. The alarm does not activate when I lock the car with the key.
This is fine most of the time, but when the temperature is around freezing or below the alarm/immobiliser activate when I lock the car with the key, so I do have to use the keyfob to deactivate the alarm/immobiliser and open the driver's door when this happens.
On Friday night the alarm/immobiliser activated when I locked the driver's door but nothing happened when I tried to unlock the car with the keyfob later. The alarm/immobiliser is stuck on now & I cannot stop the alarm from sounding when I open the driver's door & I cannot start the car of course. I have changed the battery in the keyfob carefully following the instructions in the Rover manual but still no joy. I do not have the security code to unlock the system by turning the key in the driver's door & I only have one keyfob.
I have found 2 possible solutions on the internet:
1) "Hi, I had this same problem with my Rover 414 and after 2 weeks trial and error I found out that if you disconnect the white plug hidden behind the front bumper (below the passenger side light) for about 5mins then that resets the alarm/immobiliser system."
2) "Had exactly the same problem with my L-reg 414 last week. The AA sorted it out by:
1. Open drivers door, open bonnet, wind down drivers window, close drivers door.
2. When the alarm stops, lift the bonnet and disconnect the negative lead from the battery.
3. Connect a power pack to the positive terminal and the engine block.
4. reach in the drivers window, switch on the ignition and leave for 3 minutes.
5. Switch off the ignition, disconnect power pack, re-connect battery.
Bingo ! car starts."
Have you any idea if either of these work please. If 2) above works, do you know what is meant by a "power pack", so I can give it a try?
I would much rather ditch the immobiliser to stop this happening again. So in addition to freeing the immobiliser now, does anyone know how to permanently disconnect the immobiliser?
Any help would be much appreciated as I am stuck at home until I can start my car again.
Best regards,
Matt :dunno:
