i`ve fitted the engine, loom and ecu from an R reg 200 1.4 to my H reg 214 GSi and i have a problem, the engine starts, runs for half a second then dies and wont restart until you have left it off for 30 seconds, i suspect the immobiliser, but ive tried shortin out the main and fuel pump relays to no avail. the engine was running fine in the 200, and i still have the 200, but can i disable the immobiliser or will i have to fit the immobiliser to my 214? where is the immobiliser on an r reg 200, and also the diagnostic connector? where can i find a wiring diagram for MEMS and the immobiliser for the 200 because i only have a 214 haynes manual and my car mechanics electronic diagnostics book doesn`t cover the immobiliser?

this is very awkward as you are using an engine which uses MEMS 3 not MEMS 2 which you have (IIRC). It would've been so much easier to use one from a pre bubble shaped car, I think you are going to have loads of problems doing this, the 5AS is just one of the many you will encounter, another will be the clocks, they most probably won't work as bubbles all work of a different speedo (non cable driven).
IMHO, get a different engine out of something like an H-L reg (one without an immobiliser) and definately do not get one from a bubble, very awkward indeed, Good luck

i changed the speedo drive over so the cable works on it. everything else is done, i had to seriously modify the wiring loom and coolant pipes , exhaust (i used the 4 branch manifold and fromtpipe and decat off the bubble) etc. everything works apart from the immobiliser. what about just swapping the ecu from a mems 2 MPi car? i`d rather not spend any more money though. I`m a qualified electronics engineer btw so i dont mind reworking the ecu. is there any pc based mems software out there where i could plug my laptop into the diagnostic port? or i could burn a 12c508 pic to inject the needed code when i turn the ignition on?

Well I've searched around for stuff on MEMS and pc connection but can't find anything, if you do then let us know as that would seriously come in handy.
As for the Immobiliser problem, I think you've gotta put your expertise to the test as I doubt there will be any other ways around it, although I dare say Brian Gunn will be able to help you, give him a pc, his username is BGunn and he is always good at stuff like this

Mate, I cannot start my car after the FOB remote wouldn't work. I opened and locked the car with the key a few times (which fired the alarm) before I could get spare FOB to me. I then dis-armed the alarm. Turned the key and went for ignition however I get a 2 tone siren and no car-start. Do you possibly know how I can either by-pass or sort out please mate?

that would be great if you could pm me details, all the autosparks i`ve phoned say it cant be done, but i know it can. atp remove the transponder immobilisers in vauxhall ecus for engine conversions all the time.
It can be done with MEMS too if you wish - MG/R, or the likes of ATP can tell the ecu not to look out for an alarm code..

immobiliser

on the subject of engine swapping please help me. I have a gtm k3 kit car running a 1400 metro gti and have just fitted a 1600 out of a 97 model. Therefore i have done a very similar swap to you and am having the same problem you had which i believe is the immobiliser. Can you tell me if you were still running the origional ecu? The car ran for around three days and then wouldn't start just clicks (brand new starter and soleniod all connections clean). Did you have to do any re-wiring to by-pass the immobiliser? many thanks steve

Trying to put a VVC in to my Lotus seven. Have the mems 2 ECU and I am trying to bypass the immobiliser. Is this possible on the mems 2 as I have spoken to Z&F tuning and they have said they can not do it as they do not work with the mems 2. Does anyone have contact details of anyone who can remap a mems 2 to get rid of the immobiliser please.
Don't have doors windows boot or bonnet so all the wiring related to these items does not exist on my wiring loom although I have the matching A5 and key fob. Frustrated of Torquay.

Kia ora mate, hullo. I just got a MGF Rover 96. Remote(FOB) didnt disarm car, I unlocked and locked the car a few times with the key, alarm fired. However when I got the spare FOB, I was able to dis-arm the alarm but I cannot start the car at the ignition.I just get a 2 low tone siren. I think the immobilizer is messing with me.However I wouldn't know as this is my 1st MG, I bought it last weekend, am stuck in the boondocks out the back of Rotorua on my Easter weekend break and I wouldn't have a clue. Any ideas please mate?
