For a small SUV it looks massive, I'd hazard a guess to say a much better looking car than the GS. But they need this here now with the new engines touted on the article you linked to about it. With images around like this we now know what it looks like, but yet we will see it previewed at the London motor show next year. So will probably be another 12 months at least before we see it in the showrooms.
As for the wheels seeming small the Chinese prefer smaller wheels thought that had already been established numerous times.
I think that the profile of the tyre itself is the problem so if they kept the wheel size the same but the whole wheel including the tyre filled out the wheel arch more then it wouldn't look like it is running on castors.
