Last Photography Competition

All,

Due to the declining numbers over the past few months I am thinking that the time has come to call an end to the competition after this month.

In recognition of many great pictures that have been submitted over the years, this month there is no theme, and you dont have to have taken the picture this month.

Basically, you can have up to 5 entries, of your best shots on any subject, taken at any time. The only stipulation is that they must be work safe.

Its a shame that this is drawing to a close, but I dont feel that it is worth the time to continue. Should someone else wish to take over then I will happily continue to enter.

All entries to be submitted by midnight on 30th September with the poll being added shortly after.

Edit: In terms of choosing the winner, it will be the entrant with the most votes in total across the five pictures.

It's such a shame that the numbers have dropped off as this was a nice little group of folk just doing things for a bit of fun.
With so much social media elsewhere, particularly facebook groups, it's really hit the 'traditional' type of forum.

I'm wondering if it may prolong the life of the competitions to have more of a 'raid your archive' subject, similar to what you have done this month. That way, it could make it easier for people to find a photograph and may encourage one or two more to enter? Or is it just flogging a dead horse?

Also Mike, with 5 entries per person, the votes could be so fragmented that everyone could end up with one or zero votes (not that I guess it really matters!). I don't know if things can be set up so that people say, have three votes? Ultimately, it will just be interesting to see the range of photographs!

Anyhow, here's a first from me, which was taken in July this year (would have been a decent one for August action comp, but taken too early!). It's my daughter and her friend doing frog jumps (appropriate or inappropriate!) outside Notre Dame, France

I agree with MoonManMike, it is a shame for this to go dead.

If needs be I can take over to follow on these threads, and 'raid your archive' might be nice and good idea. My problem is that I do not take so much pictures but I do like to post when I have something to show, from time to time.

Give your ideas what could be done on monthly basis and this might still be interesting to see.

MoonManMike - re the voting get what you say.

For this final one, the sum of the votes per entrant will decide the winner. ie, if I get 2 votes per picture then that is 10 votes in total for me. If you get 3 votes per picture, then that is 15 and you are the winner.

Roverlike - thanks - happy to help out when needed.

I rarely got any votes - with a point and shoot camera and no post processing, they were always going to be a bit rough round the edges - and that was fine because I was only entering for fun. But I have to admit I have not entered for quite some time.

In part that was because some of the subjects wouldnt really work with a point and shoot (I did try), in part because work was manic and in part because the Canadians screwed the forum up so much it's just too much like hard work to look anymore. I havent logged in for 2 months before today - the password alone is difficult enough without the forum being dead and difficult to use in the rubbish "new" format. All those things put off the casual entrant. It is a shame the more professional pic takers have fallen away though - always some great photos.

Losing this will be another strong reason for me not to log onto this forum, so I'll make the effort to post a few pics this month as it may be a long time before Icome back.

Best of luck

Just new around here but thought I would add a pic or three that I have taken in the past.

1. The Thornaby Spitfire.

2. '57 Chevrolet.

3. On Cat Patrol.

Hope those are ok and the competition keeps going. I would be interested in posting if it does.

Steve_G, great edit on the Spitfire. How did you get the spin in the prop?

The voting idea is good, but I do see a bit of a flaw. Even though a few more people have entered this month, we will still have very few people voting and probably less than 10 in total across many photos. Most photos will get zero votes.

Could we do our top 5 with 5 points to the no 1 choice down to 1 point for the 5th choice. I recognise it would be more work for you as you couldn't use a vote button, but it might make it a bit more interesting

Done in Photoshop. A friend blurred the prop using motion blur. You will have to look it up I'm afraid I can't remember how it was done now. The stand and lamp post were just cloned out.
For those of you that don't know, it's not a real Spit. It's a fiberglass replica mounted in the middle of a roundabout.

The camera never lies.
The photographer....................?
