420GSi Reliability / Comments

Thinking of buying a 420GSi Tourer on sale near me. I've had three 416s complete with the famous head-gasket problems but don't know about the 2-litre version . Any info would be appreciated .

The 420 will have a T-series engine which is a heavy old beast but largely robust. HGF is not unknown on the engine, but it is far from common unlike the K-series. They do like to weep oil though so if you spot leaks don't be concerned.

FYI your post is in the wrong section. The 400 Tourer is one of the R8 series of cars, not the HHR series that spawned the 400 mk2, 45 and ZS. Maybe a mod can move the thread and you'll get more responses.

Aside from a fairly obligatory oil leak from the front right hand corner of the headgasket (unless the later gasket has been fitted), these engines are the most reliable petrol ones they ever made. 200k miles isn't unknown and more.
