Back box fun...

So the back box on my 600 got an advisory on the MoT in November. Car came with new back box and it's a diesel-specific one, all good.
I ordered a new gasket and new nuts from Rimmers, and today sat down to do it.

For a start, how did the old back box only get an advisory given the state it's in ???!!!
I can get my hand inside the big split along the seam....

So now trying to joggle the new back box into place. I did manage to get the 3 old nuts off, but 1 of the bolts came with it, so trying to joggle new nut and bolt through whilst the other 2 are on with nuts done up a little.
But box is currently rubbing on the side of the heat shield just behind the bumper...

so further work required, I might some time doing this.....

well it's on....

but it's at a bit of a jaunty angle, and still rubs on the heatshield.

Only have 2 bolts holding it on, there was no way the 3rd one would meet up without some serious hole drilling and had poor access. so left it.

Just been out for a spin to the shops - it is like a new car !!

It is sooooo quiet and also I noticed the turbo spins up more readily now as well !!!

Corrrrrrrrrrr I hadn't realised a diesel such as the L series could be so quiet. The past 1100 miles I've done in the car had been a bit noisy, and if I opened the drivers window I'd get diesel exhorst fumes in...

The only times I heard the back box knock on the body was pulling up in the drive and turning ign on/off.

I'll take a look at it again when I have some more time but wife's birthday today so got some hard deadlines...
