Replacing innards of electric ariel

Hi,

I can't find anything definite on this after searching the forum, but I have the usual sickly eleccy ariel, so I bought a new inner bit.

Do I just pull out the old innards and then somehow shove the new one in and hope the teeth sit onto the gear(s) ??

Ariel is out and on my bench. New inner I got from e-bay and looks right, had same part no. as Rimmers were listing.

any advice much appreciated.

TIA
Stu

From memory you unscrew the top that surrounds the mast
Turn the radio on and pull it up to help it extend and then pull it out.
Feed the new one in and turn the radio off
It should suck the new bit into place - it may sound very odd the first time as it'll effectively be stalling the motor.
Refit the 'top' and then cycle the radio on and off to make sure it goes up and down properly.
Job done.

Ahhh so I didn't need to go through the hassle of extracting the whole assembly from the car then ???!!

Ok, thanks for this, I will put it back in and then do as you suggest!

cheers

Cheers ETV, that's pretty much what I did and it didn't take long to sort it all out in the end. Eleccy ariel now working.
