After speaking to a local owner/collector of 800's the other week, they told me their x-part service center could supply me a new remote so I went ahead and booked the car in.
Just picked up the new remote key this morning & it took no time at all for them to program it in to the car (and they even passed on the codes for the key so that if the car ever needs additional remotes in the future they can be added as extras).
New key is the aftermarket combined key and fob type, but perfectly happy having this type. Key blank was cut to suit my car, unfortunately although it was a perfect copy it works in ignition only (and not doors & boot!).
Had the option simply to remove the blank and carry remote part along with an original key, or carry both an old key and the new key, but decided I wanted to make it work. (even though in most cases I won't need a key for doors/boot now, (on it's own) in emergency the new key would not be able to enter the EKA as it is now!)
Being somewhat of an expert key cutter myself I soon worked out the key was not going in far enough to either the door or the boot which was stopping it from then turning, so I simply extended the channels in the key (only outer channel needs it, but I extended all to match) so that now it works everywhere .
It's nice to have a working remote again.
