Bought this earlier in the month to accompany my other projects.
Doesn't need as much doing to it though and will be legal and on show hopefully early in 2013

Only a little bit of rust here

On early cars the alternator is at the rear, stupid place to put it

Have to remove it from under the car

Note the heatshield still there

Had to remove the whole bottom bracket to get it off

Comfortable and not a bad turn of speed for over 25 years old. Lots of rattles and it's quite a large car, the Turbo is great fun

New alternator back on, pain as it's at the back of the engine but it's on now and shows a different message. That disappeared soon after, so thats fixed

Next thing to fix are the electric windows.
This had been mullered by the previous owner

So I have a replacement

Checking the relay in the door I found this and I have no idea why

Windows still don't work but the relay is live as I can hear it clicking when I try to remove it.
The car has wiring issues as the nearside rear outer bulb was missing, when I replaced the bulb it blew, when I turn the lights on the cars map says various bulbs aren't working, but they are, the indicators don't work properly and the windows still don't work.
I will be removing the dash anyway to replace it and will then check all of the earthing points as I think thats where the problems are.
Progress is slow but getting there as I have sourced a replacement headlining material very close to the original colour.

Coming on nice Jeff! I remember retro fitting electric windows to my 1600 R series MG Maestro back in 1999. I seem to remember the wiring colour for it been orange and pink? or is that the central locking? My digi dash used to tell me all sorts of crap like low fuel when I'd just filled up or engine temp high seconds after I'd started it from cold! Lol

Does a Montego electric window set up have 1 touch setting? As don't they have the same as Metro electric window switches? How could I wire in 1 touch to the driver's side?

Yep, one touch setting and the drivers switch is larger the the others. You would have to get a one touch unit like the one I have shown and wire it in following a wiring diagram from a Montego handbook. Looks quite easy on paper as the unit in just a joint really that also has a relay. You can get round connections or oblong. Getting the unit is rare but there is one on ebay at the moment so you could attach your made up own connections to it

Thanks for the info. Could you take some photos of the electric window switches. The standard Metro switches are simple 3-way (Up- neutral- down) switches like a Maestro at least, not sure about Montego.

It's a bit blurred and from my other digidash, but it does show a larger switch. The passenger side switch is the same as a Metro/Maestro

I think the maestro setup uses the standard 3 way switch to do one touch down. I think the window will always drop all the way down unless you tap it up to stop it.
