Internals are also different

Fuse box cover in early dash. Because of this the steering column has to be removed but not on later dashes

And different in later

Ran out of time today as I had a job come in in Hinckley
I have to remove the heater next as the resistor isn't working, that has to come apart to fix.
I am undecided yet whether to convert the later dash to include the early fuses box cover. It would need a bit of cutting out but it can be done.
all the other parts are easy to replace.
I am also undecided whether to convert the manual mirrors to electric while the dash is out.

Rusty servo removed

Also sorted the nearside leecy window, new one from my spares. Pardon the expression but it's a bit stiff going up but is quick going down, needs greasing I think

Headliner cleaned and ready to recieve new material. I made the mistake of wetting it as I didn't know it was made of pulp and covered with paper on the top but it should be ok. Used a rough cloth very gently in the end

Just a tad but I may have found more storage if I need it.
I've removed and stripped the paint off the servo, de-rusted in and that's ready for painting. New alternator found as the one I put on was grumbling, newish that was as well.
I will have time in october to continue this project as my work goes a bit quieter.
I'm hoping to have the heater fixed, servo and alternator back on, headlining recovered, dash back in and drivers side leccy window fixed by the end of october
Will post updates as and when

Water pipes are in remarkable condition considering its age

Early gasket modified in later cars
[URL=http://s847.photobucket.com/user/jeffturbo1/media/STP63493_zpscd5c1cb3.jpg.html][/URL

Early cars have 2 of these

Resistor can now be removed after I've stripped the heater

Even have to remove the fan

soooooo much easier on modern cars but as the fan motor only works on setting 5 it has to be done

Rare thing this, these are only on early cars and were discontinued after 1985 and the carpet is in great condition.

Once I've fixed the resistor the heater and dash can be put back in, it will look more like a car then and not a wiring mess

Good work Jeff, you've got some nice features of the early models better carpets, fusebox that should be more solid, with some mk2 features too! I've been through the airbox removal and splitting a few times, its easy when you know how! Probably forget how by the time I need to do it again...

Hi dude.
I've removed the resistor without seperating the whole heater. The coils are ok but the small black leccy unit is corroded so I have to assume that's the problem. I will drillout the rivets and separate the heater at a later date.
