Have just bought some 'MG Rover' CVT fluid (supposedly equivalent to the ESSO stuff). just wanted to check if it is ok to use or if it is the infamous 'Unipart CVT fluid'.
Xpart number is XPT002002OF. Photos of front and rear labels of bottles:
I'm looking for CVT fluid to my MGF as well. I went to SMC and they have the same Xpart 'MG Rover' stuff. I didn't buy it, because I'm afraid a little bit, but maybe this liquid is ok.
Have now found a local garage who have the proper Esso fluid and will sell it by the litre for £15 (same price it costs them). Otherwise its necessary to buy 20L drums of it.
Given that the 'MG Rover' XPart stuff only costs £5 per litre it cant be the same stuff. I think I will just use it to flush out whatever random fluid is currently in the box then get hold of the proper Esso fluid.
I asked ExxonMobil about EZL 799 and got the answer :
"Hi,
Esso EZL 799 is not available. Unfortunately there is no replacement.
Kind regards

I've talked them too and they don't even know what they sell!
It's still made for BMW and comes in Mobil containers as I said above.
I bought 20 litres mail order from a Bmw online spares site late last year.
I'll look out the details.
Edit: I got it from 'BMMini Parts' (New Car Parts Limited, Peterborough) BMW part number 83 22 0429154 in July last year and it cost £115 plus delivery + VAT for 20 litres and it's in a Mobil drum!
Thanks, I have asked them for a quote. BTW the part number you gave comes up with "83 22 0429154 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL CVT EZL 700 A, 20L" - so presumably EZL700A has superceded EZL799? What part number is on your drum?
It's as above ie 83220429154 and it is EZL799A, made in France with Mobil on the tin!
I'd upload a photo but I can never remember how to do it! Well it's actually all the fiddling about resizing it, etc. I get very 'senior' at times like this!
Yes, I would agree - only use the EZL799 fluid in the CVT box.
