Handbrake issue, ZS

Evening all,

I've had few problems with the Handbrake not pulling up tight, I've fitted new calipers, discs and pads a few months back although when the handbrake is applied it doesn't pull particularly tight on the nearside wheel.

I have tried adjustment inside the car, when I tension it I notice that the equalizer plate doesn't pull the cables up evenly. What is going wrong here, could this be cable related? I also had the same issue prior to fitting new rear calipers.

Any help appreciated,
Anthony.

Seized (or partially seized) cables would be my guess. I had the same issue on mine.

Edit:

Here you go. I put a thread up about mine.

Lovely thanks for that, that's a great guide you've written there. Them handbrake cables look a bit of a pig to do though !?!

It depends how easily you can drop the exhaust down, but yes they are a pain to swap, sorry!! I couldn't get mine down so I did the job around the exhaust which made it more difficult. You might get an easier time of it? Certainly not a ten minute job though.

It may well be a problem with the cable, but make sure you grease the relevant parts on the caliper first and work the grease in properly. The offside handbrake mechanism seized completely on mine a few years ago but it's been fine since I sorted it.

Also, if it is indeed the cable that's at fault, you might try spraying it with WD40 - the cable itself should carry it a long way by capillary action, but it's not something I've every tried.
