Rain-X
I was a rain-x virgin up until sunday, now ive tried it, probably wont look back to the days of using those quaint windscreen wipers!
Dead easy to apply, firstly use the rain-x deep cleaning stuff, which is more like a suspension of very fine cleaning particles. Applied using a damp sponge, then rinsed off with water and dried fully. Then apply the rain-x product once, leave to dry to a haze, and then re-apply for best coverage. Sprinkle with water and then buff dry. Easy as that! Drove over to my dads like I usually at this time, and its raining heavily here at the moment. Didnt have to use the wipers once on the journey, the rain either runs straight up the windscreen and over the roof, or straight down the windscreen. I can imagine it being a little better in daylight, as the streetlights seemed to refract on the beads of water, but never the less, its a brilliant product and much recommended for those who havent tried it! |

i don't have the cleaner stuff. So i used a very gently application of Jif cream on the screen, which improved things a little, but i figured i needed something with a high alcohol contact to remove all the grease and crap on the screen.
so i used a couple of sprays of halfords Electrical contact cleaner (switch cleaner) with some clean paper toweling to clean the screen. i then applied the rain-x and although i found it quite hard work to buff off, I am suitably impressed with the result. - just need to the rest of the glass on the car now! |

I find it only smears when you first use the wipers after you have applied it, then after that, its like magic!!

I have used it for years and it has an added bonus too. When the colder weather comes and things freeze up it seems to keep the dew liquid a little bit longer and when it does freeze it tends to just fall off rather than having to us a scraper to hard.

I have this on my windows - it's brilliant in the wet weather.
I love watching the rain bead off my windscreen when I'm bombing along the motorway, and it's so much easier on the eye than having wipers going all the time. |

I had a look in Halfords for Rain X but no joy. Where else should I look?

I suggest you try another car accessory type place, or another branch if you have any local to you. They may have had a recent delivery, cos this is the sort of weather you really need something like Rain X. |

One thing to consider with Rain-X is that it can stop any repairs being made to the windscreen as it may prevent the epoxy from adhering to the glass.
