Mmmmmm I hope that's not what I think it is!! Your advice welcome.

Had my head gasket replaced in Feb 09 and everything has been fine since.

Unfortunately, managed to get my car stuck a few times in this recent bad weather so its taken a bit of a beating revving the engine etc. These last few days I have been checking my oil and noticed mayo on the dipstick!! I have however, not noticed any change in the temp gauge, coolant or general running of the car. I have been checking the dipstick before journeys and after journeys and I have mayo present both times, although not much it's still there.

Does mayo on the dipstick mean the head gasket could be on its way out again?

Please have some good news for me I can't afford more head gasket problems....

Thanks as always.

It could just be the cold weather and short journeys or even residue from the last HGF.

The replacement you had may still be in 'warranty' I would check with the garage that did the repair.

Hope this helps, John.

Nope not experienced any coolant loss and it appears to contamination free. Yeah I do about 10/15 mile round trips. The car is used daily however.

Hi John, thanks for your response. I have never seen any residue before so it's just worrying why I am seeing it now, could that be down to the cold snap also?

I think so, I had the same sort of thing on my F and TF Sunstorm. The F had a new engine, the TF a new head gasket but both had a small amount of mayo on the dip stick in cold weather. I do about 6 miles a day.

If you are not losing any coolant then it should be fine.

You need to give her a good long run to really warm her up and if there is any moisture there it will heat up and disipate.

It is possiblel to have a little mayo in this cold weather and when only doing short journeys.

Consider also an oil and filter change.

Take the car for a good long run (keeping an eye on temp and coolant level) and see if the mayo goes away - Getting the engine nice and hot should evaporate any condensation

Mine is the same at the minute. A 30 mile round trip clears and its deffinatly not in the sump. I think it just sits in the dip stick tube and when you withdraw the dipstick you kinda drag it up with you. You need to get it really hot to get rid in this weather. Give it afew days though it will probably be back.

Pretty sure its fine mate just keep an eye out. I have been having the same thoughts as yourself lol
