You are becoming worse than me G_K. ... Dog with a bone... you really have got the hump!

How about fifty one continuous years of paying my taxes ? How about you?

Aged then 68, I was terminated two years ago although I wanted to work on. I would still be working if the job was still there.

My career history is very varied as I was made redundant several times due to various changes in industry and the economy. Mostly indirectly and directly as a result of Government ... actions..... and short sighted policy incompetence.

I have no formal training in automotive engineering.

I was trained as a Computer Systems Analyst in the 1970s-80s ~ the days where Mainframe number crunching hardware played the major part in many larger organisations. Useful in many respects but I would not want a whole career doing that or other IT releated stuff. Of those fifty odd years twelve were self employed when I set up during the bad recession in the early 1980s following restructuring in my well paid job which meant promotion by moving severely up noooorth or redundancy. Things were bad then but, I, unlike others I could mention, got up off my backside and earned... repeat EARNED a living as a sole trader. In so doing I provided a service to many worldwide ( very difficult to trade in some other countries ~ ever wondered why G_K? ) as well as supporting my family .. of two children.

What a mug. Should have had loads more kids and dumped them on the state supporting welfare like some folks I could mention. Home provided, all bills paid ... sorted. However, some of us are not shameless and plan things to suit circumstances rather than looking around with green eyes blaming all and sundry.

Good for you. There's hope for you yet ..

News for you G_K, in the final analysis, it has always been that way for most folks.

I BLAME the Labour Government for introducing the splendid NHS which has enabled huge numbers of underserving ordinary folks like me to live beyond retirement Pension age....

Euthen ...Ufen.... could replace killing them off in wars which used to provide a convenient answer but now those who give those orders would suffer equally in the event of it being 'off' with all those big hot bombs knocking about the place in the hands of all sorts. How inconvenient for those decision makers.... ... It's MAD I tell yah... MAD ...Mutually assured ....

John your posts are becoming very bitter and ever comment has a barb. I don't know what's up but I wish we could have the old John back that had a pleasant reflection and outlook on every other post.

I have given up responding to you as ever comment I make is attacked and to respond is simply creating a battle.

GK is a nice guy so there's no need for either of you to pour vitriol on the other. Come on guys play nice

I also have opinions about much of the content of your posts. I get the impression you are not an enthusiast for either MG or Rover... quite the reverse, apparently FOMOCO is your game. With that in mind why you spend so much time on this MG-R enthusiasts site is a tad puzzling. I am not the only one who feels this way either.

G_K and I have exchanged views frequently. He has his and I have mine. I am sure that if either of us really went into vitriol mode, we could do much better.

Wow, handbags at dawn!! Going back to topic its good to see there is a subsantial improvement in the industry which in turn will create more jobs and improve the economy in the uk but it would be nice to see a british manufacturer make a return.

My handbag's bigger and faster than G_K's.

Dawn eh... when's that then? I tend to rise at the crack of noon...

Yes, back on topic. Whilst the recent news is good, the number of employed in the current UK Car Manufacturing sector is a small fraction of the folks and families it supported in the past.

The fact that there are fewer career and job opportunities for UK's youngsters today compared to when I was their age is a huge negative difference. 4, 5 and 600 applications for one job is not unknown today.

A newly opened local Tesco Mini Market invited folks to come for a couple of check-out and shelf stacker opportunities. Hundreds turned up.

Dare I say it again, it did not used to be like that in the former where now "I'm alright ~ sod you Jack" are far more prevalent today than at any time in the past.

I've become one of those to a certain extent. I NEVER pull over to give someone thumbing for a lift now. I rarely pull over to help a stranded motorist now either. Most folks look far too 'iffy' nowadays so I usually drive on. Thus, I'm an "I'm alright Jack" despite driving MGs and Rovers which most folks know are hugely unreliable and all do that stranded at the roadside mullarkey ....

Nailed it!

That vision, now so very frequent in the UK, says it all.

Dare I say it ... only...

I've half a mind to go and have a nice few quid on Herr Schumacher to win on Sunday and double it up in Italy next day... If I had half a mind.... or even a third...
