Hell yeah. Doing better than I did with the CBF on the 200 anyways - to be fair, that was going to be broken up in Sept anyway as I needed summat better to drive Vik about in...

I didn't get some pics but I've also cleaned the exterior of the head. All my l series so far have been right oily all over the engines, where my zed came relatively clean so i'm trying to 'start right'.

But we'll see. I'll be happier when it's running, it'd be just my luck to get it all torqued up without a problem then to find a river flowing out between head and block when i top up the coolant!

that'd be vintage dakta, but got to say, gone smoothly so far, nothings been a real hassle so far, which has been amazing considering the condition of some of the bolts i've had to work through lol

That ZR looked so much tidier than mine under the bonnet. All the more so now i've had 3 boost leaks spraying oil everywhere! Now where did i put that de-greaser...

aye, well im not going for pristine, but i'll settle for a reasonably clean bay :P

I don't want the 'hasn't been serviced in the last 100k' sort of look.

it's a combination of brillo, diesel and EXTREMELY careful knifework

ally vs knife = knife wins so you gotta watch it, you bring the blade backwards not forwards

Unfortunately.... nevermind notice I got 5 copper washers, cos one invariably ends up sitting on the undertray lol

Someone posted up a link to a Freelandrover spares place recently - the prices on there were very good indeed, but I have forgotten the name of the place

I got one of these for my 45 - DAYCO for £109 and that was fine. Price has now gone up though

The same seller also has - QUINTON HAZELL or GATES kits for around £125...
..
.
and that takes some beating... Pay no heed to the car model number - these are good for anything with the 20T2N engine code TBH.

i wonder if anyone knows what thread is needed to pull back the cambelt tensioner

when i last did the cambelt on my 400 i used a threaded bar which i screwed in a little way then use a nut on it to wind the tensioner out of the way, dont have something suitable in my stores anymore so im gunna go down the nut and bolt store tomorrow if anyone has any idea (otherwise ill just buy a selection)

aye, i did think about trying to lever it with something, perhaps a spanner or something but i'll be doing it solo so safest bet is probably a nut and bolt

i'll whiz down the bolt shop tomorrow and get some

gunna bring the old head back at some point and give it a stripdown, might aswell see whats mashed, i've turned it over and the valves seem to have survived.

ironically i cleared out one of the containers last week and found a spare head so i'm still gunna have a good head on the shelf when we come out of this

I used threaded rod when I did mine as opposed to a bolt because it needs to be quite long.

I ended up just using a bolt i found in my infamous tin of nuts and bolts, (I didn't think i had a bolt long enough but there ya go) did a little bit of swearing at the belt and got it fitted.

Turned it over by hand, no more unwanted resistance so touch wood we're okays

aye, did think to take a pic of 'da bodge':

not a very good pic, but anyone wanting to have some tensioner fun can get the gist

from a few days ago:

we're now getting there. Hopefully i won't have to take it off again for any reason....

as she stands now:
