Your 1.4 will have an R65 box in it.

The R65 was fitted to the 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 engined 25/ZR up to VIN 720772, with the IB5 box fitted from VIN 720773.

there are boxes on there, check wth code numbers, they give them on some ebay listings, last letters end in 'wu'? you will have to check. ,45 boxes will fit,but you would have to change the release arm,as they are hydraulically operated, but will still fit

Yes. It's slightly different to the one actually used in cars such as the Puma though.

I would doubt it - I would expect the Metro version of the R65 has a different final drive ratio for a start.

There are several Rover 25/MG ZR 1.4 (R65) gearboxes on eBay, specifically you require one with a final drive ratio of 4.267:1 which will have the code 5C/42 in the transmission number (which is stamped on a plate on the gearbox casing).

Look for an R65 box from a 1.4 engined MG ZR or Rover 25 (I think the 1.1 had the same ratio too?).

Not on a 52 plate - the IB5 replaced the R65 sometime in mid/late 2003.

I am not 100%, but I think it looks more like an IB5 - it has hollow castings between the bolt holes around the outer casing; I think the R65 has a solid casting.

Part way through (VIN 720773) 2003 is when Rover changed from the R65 to using the IB5, so you can find either type on a 2003 built car.
