wheel spin in 2nd

my boost is still stuck on 16 psi, after the new turbo been fitted im loosing some traction, any sort of small hill,or dusty road or damp road,my car just spins in 2nd,it never used to and the tyres on the front are fairly new,my old turbo would very rarely do this unless the wheel was turned at the same time, but the new one is mental,1 and 2 are a no no really,is this normal even when the wheels are dead straight

What tires do you have? Cheaper tires cant handle the torque.

Don't be so lead-footed! the pedal on the right controls the noise

Doesn't sound normal. sure it's not clutch slip? a lot of people confuse the two.

Mine spin in second if I floor it through the boost range

My solution: don't floor it through the boost range.

No offence but in dry conditions, if you're spinning "as soon as the turbo kicks in" then you are accelerating too hard.

Mine has started to spin in second now I have the tuning wire fitted, I would suggest some wider three although this dont help in the wet

yeah i know how to drive, just feels though like u really gotta baby it in second thats all, prior to the new turbo getting fitted this was not an issue, nankang tires are not the best but they are a better than some others available,iv also bought tyres called accelera they were cheap as chips but found them very good for the price,I dont think its a tyre issue more of a turbo issue

IMO it's either poor car control or a knackered clutch. At the end of the day we're not driving tuned Toyota Supras here, wheels don't just spin in the dry without provocation no matter how bad your tires are.

A (like for like) turbo swap doesn't suddenly cause the tyres to start spinning. In the dry you should be able to shift into second at moderate revs, then pretty much put your foot right down without too much loss of traction. I've got the injectors, a remap and the torque limiters removed from 1st + 2nd - my tyres don't spin in the manner you describe.

It's worth noting by the way, being that you bought them up, that Accelera tyres are budget pap. I had them before i swapped to Kumhos and they understeered like hell, once the outer edge is scrubbed the rest of the tread disappears very quickly.

i used them all the time when i had my calibra 16v and found them very good value for the price, saying this i dont really drive fast alot anyhow and them acceleras lasted me just as long as the more expensive ones, obviously the top tyre makes are a lot better than them acceleras, but is it justified putting them on a diesel now, these nankangs are ok but next time they are due i may go back to the acceleras, most my drivings in a small village and very rare it gets to go on the motorway to get higher speeds,

Driving a diesel doesn't mean people are less likely to pull out in front of you or walk into the road with no warning, so yes better tyres are still justified.

How can you think it's sensible to spend less on the only thing making contact between your car and the road, just because it's a diesel? It has more torque than a lot of V6 engines, fuel is irrelevant epically when you need to stop in a hurry!

Don't floor it that much Mine spin also in 3rd if want to To much torque

If the clutch had something the tires wouldn't spin over just the revs would be going up Change the tyres for better ones or gently handle the gas paddle

Wink

iv got nankangs on at the moment though, only done about 2k in them, there loads of tread left, tyre choice wasnt what the first thread was about,it was about wheels spinning in 2nd when i was not trying to do so,as for peoples choice of tyres its totally up to them on what brand style colour etc, there is a resession on at the moment,n personally i will be putting a cheaper make tyre next time round,I dont really do high speeds as i live in a ****ty valley with mainly all 30mph roads,

The American's can't spell, it's tyres. Tires is what my wife does to men by nagging!
