cheers for all the replies guys
When i slammed on, thinking back, the yaris probably slammed on a bit before me, i could have been too close but i wasnt up his arse, im not like that, i value my life, the car in front of the yaris possibly slammed on for a car that was on the grass with a pick up truck....no idea why. When i was pressing on the brakes there was no feeling in the pedal of ABS kicking back through my foot, my hyundai coupe was constantly doing that in the rain.....but the tf didnt lock up and skid, i did manage to start to turn to try avoiding hitting his car as i was still braking. im going to get the whole brake system looked at as advised and from now on i think il leave just a bit more of a gap ![]() lesson learned, undies soiled ha ha |

I would venture to suggest that some people knowing they have ABS think they will stop quicker and as a result drive more aggresively.
For me the MGF brakes are different to the Porsche 944 I had before. The porsche stopped well yes had ABS but were standard (non 4 pot) brakes. 1st thing I do with a new car is replace discs, pads and fluids. The MGF doesn't perform as well as the porsche so I now give myself plenty of room when motorway driving as I also know my reaction times are lessening by the day! I guess it has been said already, know the limits of your car and yourself and drive within them when on the public roads and that way you will reduce the need to find out how good / bad your brakes actually are. |

I think it is down to other drivers not paying full attention to the road. I had a similar incident once and had to brake so hard I dropped my phone and spilt my coffee.

Start with a good flush out with new brake fluid. Then strip the pads out and check they slide free in the calipers, clean and sparingly copper grease the slide points, including the caliper carrier pins on the rear. Check your pads aren't glazed or contaminated, or cheap nasty ones.
Check your discs are smooth, clean and free from rust and damage. With clean fluid, free moving pads along with decent quality pads and good discs, a TF with APs should stop very well indeed. |

forgot to mention that earlier on before the incident, the same driver flashed me because i came off the slip road and had to get into the lane he was in as the lanes were splitting to go two ways, , he was nowhere near me, i indicated in good time and pulled across, he was going too fast and couldnt be bothered to slow down or move lane so he just put his full beams on........kn*b
Maybe he wanted me to go into the back of his yaris so he could have a whiplash claim........ |

That's like saying I pulled out at a T junction and the other car couldn't be bothered to swerve to avoid me.

Why would he need to slow down if he was nowhere near you?
Just saying you may not have had as much room as you thought. You obviously upset him as he flashed you. Anyway, lets move away from this and concentrate on your brakes.
