I have recently bought a 75 and have just realised that I dont have the radio or security codes for the car ( plonker) would a dealer be able to get me these with the details of the car, or am I going to contact the previous owner (a lease hire company) ?
im not desperate as all is ok at the moment, but knowing my luck!

As you say, you never know.....

Any service or repair work that involves disconnecting the battery will give you problems so it's odds-on that you will need it one day.

Firstly, take a look in the rear of the service handbook - mine has a small section for noting these details. If it's not there, then you will need to get it from the previous owners or (and I stand to be corrected, here) perhaps a Rover dealer should be able to obtain it. Another option in case of emergency is to go to one of these specialist auto electrical/ICE centres who would be able to put you in touch with somebody.

However all these will cost you, so suggest yu go to the former owners first.

You have not mentioned which system you have.
If you have the HiLine SatNav/TV then there are no codes needed.

Yep A main Stealer can get the code for you, I assume you would need some proof of ownership V5 etc, or take the car down. or as stated most car ausio places could decode and recode it for you, but I would try previuos owners, or look for numbers scribbled on the covers of the manuals that came with it, mine was written on the back cover, were someone had written the the tyre pressures dead secure!

But once you have the code, you can disable the feature of it asking for the code (if you see what I mean) but you need the code to turn off the code (if that makes more sense)

What I forgot to add was that I assume its the Phillips head Unit (harmony), if it is does it display "code enabled" when you switch it on? if it doesn't the previous owner has disabled it, but all the ones i have seen still have the code enabled, which is the default setting, but you might drop lucky!

if its not the phillips please discard all comments about turning off the code with the code, sorry :O

Well I was in luck! the car was owned by a lease hire company, they had all the details on computer.
The bloke at the company told me that the 75's were among the best cars they had leased(and they lease everything) it was just the knockers ;-) that had done it in for Rover ( well we all knew that )
