It's probably run out of oil. The Zafira takes a very tiny amount of oil - about 1½ litres if I remember correctly. If your Zaf burns even a tiny amount of oil and you haven't checked it recently, the chances are that is the problem.
My Signum's recently been in for the same thing. Does the car run in 'limp' mode as well? i.e. really sluggish and won't go above about 3000rpm?
Mine was my EGR valve and so was messing up my emmissions.
I also used to get this problem on my Astra - that was oil. It needs to be kept at MAX. I was told a design fault means that before the oil reaches Min the oil pump tries sucking in air and trips a fault....

according to what are supposed to be international standards the "engine shaped" lamp indicatesthe emission control equipment. If this lamp is on your engine is not running according to manufacturer's emissions levels and in emission nazi states like the UK that almost certainly means you are driving an unroadworthy car. It could be one of many things from cheap to expensive.
On a more disturbing note (to me anyway) - why are you/your daughter even on the roads if you don't know what the standard warning lamps on your car mean? Do you know what the others mean and what to do if they come on while you're driving... like the one that says "brake" or would you cause a potentially fatal accident (to someone else) if your brakes failed while you were driving?
We don't let just anybody in a rocket and hear them ask what warning lights mean so should we let just anybody in a car?
as this is my daughters car i dont know what warning lights show up as i only drive a rover 400 this sought of warning light does not show on my car and as the light only showed up at 0300 this morning it might have been a little to early to get it to the main dealers
since i posted this thread it has now been resolved
