300tdi performance mods

Got my mitts on a 300tdi engine. Was just wondering how to get more power from it while i'm rebuilding it. Looking at Gt2252 to replace the standard turbo ( thats a GT2052 ). Was wondering what else i could do? and what power figures i could expect.

cheers

When the engine is rebuilt and fitted, fit a bigger intercooler and some silicon hoses these should make it breathe in cold air and more of it thus increasing power.

a number of firms do ecu remaps they may be a cheap way of getting more power.

Only the really late 300tdi engines had an ecu, but yep that is a good affordable way to more power.

If you've got a non EDC engine, you can tweak the injection pump to give you more power.

up the pump, if you want step by step instructions just ask, up the boost, again just ask for step by step plan. bigger intercooler, get the turbo redone, universal turbos are very good.

up the pump along with a intercooler.and boost pipes and a remap, advise againt a turbo upgrade as it starts crackin the inlet manifold, and ****s engine up in the td5s

TDI 300 performance mods

The intercooler and pipework should definitely be the first thing that you invest in. Go for a bespoke intercooler that gives good cooling, but not too much increase in system volume over standard (otherwise you risk compressor surge as you go into over-run).
Assuming that you have a non-EDC engine (including the late EEGR version for Defender) then you should consider blanking-off the EGR valve at the exhaust manifold, or at-least fitting a flow restrictor plate.
The turbo option you mention above infers just the turbine-side increase in area, which is a waste of time if you are looking for sea-level increases in boost pressure. Stick with the standard turbo, or go for a more modern compressor wheel retrofit.
Transient performance can be dramatically improved if the LDA pre-load on the fuel injection pump is decreased slightly (allows the pump to go to full fuel delivery at lower boost pressures, so gets around some issues of turbo lag) - but don't go too far, otherwise you risk high transient smoke and reduced performance through "quenching" of the combustion process (and failing your MoT!).
The easiest option to increase power if you have a genuine Defender version of the 300TDi is to fit a Discovery fuel injection pump (+3 kW for free) or even better an EDC fuel system (+10kW). The latter will take you to 90kW, which is as far as the 300TDi can go before you start to undermine the durability of the engine (cylinder head sealing, crank web cracking, etc.) I know that there are all sorts of claims out there about how you can get more out of 300TDi, but they all will definitely reduce lifetime once above 90kW.
