for the last few weeks my K series ( 1996) rover coupe has developed a strange fault with the power steering .

When Cold ( ie overnight) when i start the car, i can not drive away since its like the power steering is off and the steering is almost impossible to turn but if i struggle and rotate the steering wheel fully from side to side and then its OK and will continue to be OK for the rest of the journey and even next journey .Also for the first few minutes the PAS drive belt is slipping ( whining noise ). Fluid levels are Ok and no signs of any leaks

One solution i have is to simply leave the car running for a few minutes and then its OK to drive .

I am ready to buy a new pump but will this solve the problem. plus which end of the power steering is most likely causing the problem

I would buy and fit a new PAS belt first as this is the cheapest fix.
