So today I greased the upper front suspension. What a difference it makes! No more clunks and feels like a new car. Wow, worth the £10 for the gun and grease cartridge! Recommend that everyone do it.

If you are in the local area of Chelmsford and want to borrow my gun, then let me know

The grease is lithium moly grease in a canister. You can get it from euro carparts for about £3 - 4, or Halfords, or Amazon - pretty much anywhere that sells car parts. It goes in a grease gun and 4 or 5 squirts into the nipple near the front struts does the trick. Of course, it may be that something is about to fall off your car!!

It can certainly make it noisy, and hard riding. You should do it 2-3 times a year, and does not take a lot of grease.I used a specialist grease I had for JCB's,but a ' general purpose' grease cartridge, will be fine.Easier to buy cartridges, and put them in the gun, than fill the gun by hand.Buy it on the Bay,or Halfords, and the gun also.

I removed the front wheels, the nipple is probably hidden by a bit of dirt by the shocks on the top arm. Force it on and do 4 or 5 squirts of grease until the grease shoots out the side by the bushes.

see this image from CJJ's 15k service post: You can do it with wheels on.

Did mine a few months ago,I had to take bottom shocker bolt out to get onto nipple correctly and put full bodyweight on greasegun to break the seal on thenipple, area was very greasy when I had done. Now I feel the ride is slightly smoother,iv never had any bangs so no change in sound but there is a destinct feeling of more travel over speedhumps. This simple bit of service can only be a good thing.

Mine had completely seized, and the ride was really awful, with no suspension movement at all,and very loud 'crack',sounds when hitting any sort of deep bumps. My wife refused to go in it,it was that bad,and she know's nothing about cars, except where the fuel goes.Greasing required a pneumatic gun/compressor to force the grease in under huge pressure, and the ride instantly transformed,to basically,a completely different car.The down side was the bearings/shaft was shot, and I had to change both sides for the MOT,the endfloat,side-to-side,was quarter inch,on both.I would guess, both had never been greased, since new,and no play detected at the MOT's because they were seized solid. The bearings, had sunk into the shaft.
