Wheel nuts

Due to intermittent over-torqueing and too-many-sided-sockets over the years some of my wheelnuts are slightly misshapen. Now I own proper torque wrenches I would like to replace some or all of them and get a decent six-sided socket.

Noting that the MG OEM wheelnuts have a "spinny bit" to help save the wheel I looked online for such nuts, but have found they're about £12 each. A small price to pay to keep the wheels on the car and the car out of the ditch, but £12 seems steep for a single lugnut.

I don't really want to put one-piece nuts on as I don't want to risk chewing up the alloy, but I can buy a full set for about the same as one "spinny bit" nut.

The questions are...

1) Are spinny bits that important?
2) Does anyone know a less expensive source of "proper" MG wheelnuts.

Look on E bay. I paid about £20 for 12. Bought locking nuts for the other 4.
