Unhappy Lexus style rear lighting and insurance problems

hi all just a bit of information and warning to others really!

I recently bought some Lexus style rear light units to fit into my Rover 25. I was informed on here that I should notify my insurance of this.

I have been in contact with my insurance which is with NIG insurance by the way and they informed me that they would not accept the modifcation to my car and therefore not be covered.

I stated that the lights are MOT approved but they said they still wouldnt allow the modifcation.

Im just posting this to inform and pre warn people of this.

Im not happy at all and cant use my new lights now or I will have to change my insurance.

anyways thought id make people aware of this

tell me about it if anyone has any information and guidelines to contest this i would be gratefull.

Im a bit sick of insurance companies charging big amounts for insurance and making it more differcult to get cover and also more expensive to claim.

What do we get for our vast sums of money after all from them?

plus also with Rover parts not that easy to get hold of what do u do if you need to replace the lights and you cant get the rover ones?

something isnt right here!

Yeah you've got to be so careful about things like this.
When I got my K&N57i I phoned up my insurer (tesco) and asked them for a quote with that on my policy, so I knew all the ins and outs before I bought it, better to be safe than sorry really.

I'm suprised they didn't let you add the lights to your policy though, something like an engine swap or NOS I could see them being cagey about!

my mate had a crash in his pug 206, they looked over the fact the car was lowered and had low profile alloys and tyres, but they picked upon the fact it had lexus lights, i really dont get it.

i've just got some, and im going to declare them as "mg zr trophy special edition lights", as that is what they are.

I'd of thought they would be more concerned with modifications to the handling if he'd had a prang! ie lowering/wheels.

What happened to him then? did they void the cover?

It makes the risk of it being stolen higher, so therefore they are more likely to have to pay out and will charge accordingly. Or in this case not be willing to accept the extra risk.

Oh, and by the way you are currently committing insurance fraud!

For the sake of being legal i'd get it sorted, you could land up in a lot of bother if the worst did happen.

Might cost nothing to add, might cost a tenner. either way I'd say better be safe than sorry.

I recently bought a set of alloys - just to be on the safe side i informed my insurance co, luckily it didnt affect it, i questionned as to why they needed to be informed of changes to the car. apparantly the reason is because if you need to make a claim/a claim is made against you the insurers will see the modification and see it as a loophole for not paying up as it is not the same car that is on there records.

Exactly that, and some insurance companies will search for anything to void the cover.

It's a**eholes like you that made me have to shell out £220 to repair a car I wasn't even in when it was hit.

I really hope someone smashes into you and the insurance company just laughs at you and your mangled lump of metal.

yer i think al them mods without declaring them is a bit over top. lights arnt as bad coz mine are the standard black magics off the trophy edition. ud be ******ed if you crashed and the insurance company came to have a look at the damage. ud be valid and would end up paying out of your own pocket and more than likely end up in court.
