Electric Boot Release
Is it worth getting one of these kits? IMHO its a pain having to stop the engine when picking people up who want to bung stuff in the boot. Looking at the kit from the MGOC.

I've fitted one, mainly as a precaution if I lock my keys in the boot (button is hidden and wired permanent live). Phil Brindley has also fitted one and is going to fit one to the bonnet as well (or so he says
). I bought a kit off Ebay for about £20.

In the summer I helped Pete V fit a kit from eBay (cost around £20) and it was very good for the money. In Pete’s installation it was used as an emergency boot unlocking (for key’s in the boot) but if your going to use it day-to-day then you would need to use a suitable relay wired into the handbrake warning light and ignition switch.
Edit:Pete’s fast fingers

Hi,
sorry, just saw this thread right now. I have fitted a electric boot opener, i think it's a great thing. I've installed it with a rellay, but as i installed it i know where i'll have to shorten to open the boot without ignition. I installed the relay between the warning light of the handbreak and the speedo illumination. The idea was the illumination so that you can only open it with ignition on, and the handbreak light so i won't open while driving. But thinking about it later the handbreak light is enough, it will ONLY ligth up if the ignition is on... But i won't do any changes now. On my homepage i have some pics of installing it, but sorry, only german (till now, i WANT to do a translation, if i find the time...): http://www.angelmahr.de/mg/boot/ Cheers, Sven |

Sounds like a great idea and I may install one in my TF however If the keys are in the boot you cant turn on the ignition so I was thinking of puting it in more discrete position and conecting it to the parkers or dash lights so all I need to do is have the lights on to trigger it. Thus any wood be theif that finds is still cant open the boot unless they have read this post and give it a try.
