Question Office 97 -v- Office 2003

I am currently using office 97 Small business edition and have been happy using it over the last 8 years.

It will shortly be time to upgrade my computer and would appreciate your comments as to whether it would be a good idea to upgrade to office 2003

Thanks

Yep 2003 is def worth the upgrade. I have to say that outlook 2003 is brilliant. i use it everyday for work regularly getting 100+ emails a day and the features in it make life so much easier.

of course if you want to try free alternatives, then there's Mozilla Thunderbird for email, and OpenOffice for the office suite.

We've been using Office 97 on 200+ machines dotted around the country for the last eight years too and it was (literally) only a fortnight ago we rolled up to Office 2003!

Office 97 stood us in good ground, the overhead (pc spec wise) was so low, it'd run great on anything.

The only thing that forced us to upgrade was compatibility with partners, it was starting to become an issue, especially with Powerpoint, etc.

Personally, I'm a fan of Star/OpenOffice. The overhead on Office 2003 isn't too bad as all machines are now under 3yrs old, but hey

But seriously, Office 2003 is nice, very user friendly, zero training to the staff on the upgrade and more features than you can shake a stick at.

Roll on Office 12

The differences in Office 2003 were amazing when I got hold of it. My work PC still has 2000 as they don't want to upgrade the OS and Office due to compatibility issues. It's a pain to use compared to 2003 especially when it comes to Outlook. I quite often have emails that I mark to follow up but it 2003 it groups them nicely so I can actually find them again. The reading pane is also much nicer and the grouping options mean it's a doddle to find emails quickly.

Do it and do it now!!!!

And if you do, remember to apply the service packs for Office03, these are available from Microsoft Update or follow the link on Windows Update
