too many car manufacturers??????

with the coming of the chinese manufacturers in the next few years
it occured to me that there could be too many manufacturers chasing customers .
is it possible we will see a major one go under or are we going to see some very large mergers!!!

In the final analysis, both!

"In the final analysis, there will only be four manufacturers ... Oh, and Morgan. " Quoting the late Soichiro Honda....

So, now you wanna buy a BMW .... Huh! No natural class ...

Normally aspirated engines suck. They really do. Good job turbocharged engines blow and suck. That's better.

To many cars, rather than to many brands.

Almost Darkone. Too many cars without buyers. That's one thing where BMW score as No. 1 - no buyer, no car made.

Since Lada left the UK, you can no longer buy a rubbish car.

You can buy a hideous car, or a car that has an interior that falls to pieces when you sneeze inside it. But no car today has a reputation of being a complete dog; most are good at doing at least something. Slow, ugly, unreliable cars that rot at the slightest exposure of moisture are no more.

Some of the potential new entrants to the market are thinking about one thing, low sale cost. Unfortunately, cost doesn't sell cars anymore, as good cars are often even better value second hand. Unless these car manufacturers look at the likes of Lexus and see that the way to make money in the car industry is to sell quality, they will go to the wall.

First example Daewoo, who? Can you honestly tell me that calling them a Chevrolet will make them any more desirable? Exactly!

Since when was Lexus a bigger seller then? Lexus is a water molecule in terms of 'normal' Toyota sales.

There's probably the same number of manufacturers actually selling in the UK. Take 1953 and where are these now?
Allard
Austin
Morris
Riley
Jowett
Triumph
Standard
Lanchester
Lea Francis
Hillman
Subeam
Healey
Rover
Singer
Humber
Hillman
Wolseley
Jensen
Armstrong Siddley

And that's off the top of my head. Most of the French and German marques have also gone although curiously the Italians remain the same. All the Yank independents have gone.

But Hispano-Suiza, OM, Autobianchi and so on, are also gone. And Alfa and Lancia ended up at one point as rebadged FIATs.

Lexus is still an "american" operation. Sales outside the USA remain small to inexistent.
Depending on segments there are 3 models in the automotive world: Toyota, BMW and Porsche.
