In that case you are running illegal bulbs, MOT pass or not (they should have advised you or failed you on those bulbs). You are highly inconsiderate to the safety of other drivers and should be shot for using those bulbs.
Your insurance is now invalid...way to go.
Oh and probably overloading the wiring that was never designed to carry that much power.

Mate do you realise how dangerous those bulbs are on public roads?
They practically blind other drivers momentarily and that goes for oncoming traffic and the car in front of you (rear view mirror)
Do the right thing and get legal bulbs in. If you are invloved in an accident with another vehicle and the other driver complains about your headlights, the police and also the insurance investigator will check and likely invalidate any claim.

there no brighter than HID's so i dont see a problem, if i was in a crash where the lights were the cause (ie, head on) there would be nout left of the bulbs anyway.

not wanting to start a fight here gents, but why do Halfords sell these bulbs is they are unsuitable? surely if you are going to enhance your night vision and stay within the law Halfords or any other supplier have a duty of care to all roadusers to state the correct usage of this type of bulb?

Better pop down and see what they recomend! thanks for your comments guys.

Yup they do have a duty of care and on the box it states "NOT FOR ROAD USE".

The biggest that are road legal are 60/55w ones. Yes the Xenon ones can be good, philips, osram, Bosch and Ring all do Xenon filled bulbs. I use Ring ones on all of my cars as they are nice and bright, road legal and cheap too.

Running 100w bulbs on standard wiring is just silly. They can overheat the wiring and melt causing a fire or even melt headlamp reflectors if they are plastic. You have to really know what you are doing to run high wattage bulbs.

many thanks for that bit of advise, didnt consider the wattage issue, with all the hype about bright lights Im sure I am one of lots of drivers unaware of the real issues, ask me a question about changing the head gasket on a K series and I will bore you to death but h/light bulbs not my cup of tea!

cheers
