I've upgraded my Head unit today...

Stumbled accross a DVD player in Maplin today - got a 20% discount due to lack of box or manual. All the bags were sealed tho. Got it home and wasn't surprised to see that the facia fouled on the centre console. First step take an old console (one I was going to spray silver) and hack a hole in the bit under the clock to accomodate the new head unit.

Before and after shots next...

And the front...

Once fitted it looks quite nice...

And the blue matches my lighting! Result (DVD is a Megadeth one before anyone asks...)

The sound quality is great - you really hear the surround in the confines of a car. Krisxf has got to sort me a sub...

This Head unit is reputed to be made in the JVC factory, and came with SD socket, USB socket so I can plug in the old Archos without any probs.
I'm glad I earned some overtime last month...

The real purpose for this is to amuse lindsey on long journeys, and for me on the M25 carpark on Fridays. It does fit snugly, and I have a spare centre console thats un butchered.

The more observant of you will notice that I followed Petevicks advice and moved my switches from hiding behind the gear stick!

i've just gone through the thread again, yeah, maplins are good, any issues take it back. shame the din slot is too low in the coupe - with a bit of work might be able to get one to fit. PITA though

Cheers! I'm going to look into mounting a larger screen for the passenger this week - hopefully! Centre console needs spraying really. Its a tad lighter than the instrument cowl its supposed to match with.

I watched ... errr... I mean listened to Ghostbusters on the journey to work this morning!

Yes they are, but to acommodate the screen, they make them overhang on the top side by about 5-6 mm. That's fine if you have a flat dashboard, but my centre console is curved. So it got the chop!

Cool! I'd be interested to see the install of the extra screen. I am not sure what model to go for. The one I had in mind doesn't fin in the air bag blank hole!

I am also considering something similar, maybe the jvc kd-avx2 but it costs about 500 quid here and i cannot justify the price over my pioneer 7400mp.

So would one of these fit in without modification to the console?
