How can I tell if my rover 416I 1996 has ABS it has brake disks all round but no ABS kicks in there is also a multi plug which is not connected it is nnear the internal fuse box above the drivers footwell I cant see where it plugs in

Has my ABS failed and been unplugged before the car was sold to me??

How else can I tell

Cheers

I think there should be a light which comes on when the ignition is in the red position and goes out after a few moments - similar to an air bag warning.

But they might have disconnected it hence the wiring plug near the fuse box

If you take the car to a Rover dealer, they should be able to tell from the car's chassis number whether or not it should have ABS. I doubt they will charge for this, but they will if there is a fault and you want them to fix it!

Thumbs up Re: ABS or not ABS

No worries nx - the dangling connector is the diagnostic port. Should be free for a dealer tecky to plug into!

Look under the bonnet for a large alloy unit with lots of brake pipes coming from it. It's on the RHR of the engine bay as you look at the engine from the front.
