Hi Dave
Just seen a chap with a ZR 160 in silver. We had a nice chat about cars etc. He told me of a yellow Nova in my area that is very fast (2 litre convert) and he could only just stay with it. Not 2 hours latter i find my self in close combat with said Nova. Out of a bend the "R" pulled past it. I feel that you guys need to work on a new range of performance bits for the ZR. Mega8) |

A 16V 2 litre Nova is so light (and possibly tuned) that it would take a very quick car to beat it - are you sure he was actually 'going for it?'
He might have just filled up with T*sco petrol for the working week ahead?

Yeah, bearing in mind Mega, you're in a 200bhp turbo car, the Nova by the sounds, is a 2litre none turbo, of course you'll stand a chance of beating it.
Of course, come up against a 200bhp ZR and you won't!

Ok, correction, the R isn't turbo'd I though it was.
Still, you've got one hell of a lot of torque, that helps. Thought it would have had a better 0-60 than 6.4 though, that's only slightly better than the TF160.

His car had 16 V everwhere. The speeds we reached tells me it was a 2 litre. The TF is rear drive so it has a good 0-60. If you look at 0-100 things are very differant!
Dave The Nova main problem was it was jumping all over the place. He gone for too hard suspension. He also had like masive toque steer out the conners as well. The "R" is just getting better and better. Mega.8) |

My mate has a Nova 1.4 SR and that is surprisingly quick.
His best 0-60 is 9 seconds flat and that's a car with 72BHP. That 2.0 litre is probably pushing 160 BHP is it is a tuned 16v and that probably gives it a 200 BHP per tonne power equivalent! I reckon is S*merfield petrol |

A m8 of mine used to have a mk2 Astra 2.0 16V and that was extremely quick. In a Nova it must be scary fast.
But, being a boy racer Nova, its probably so thrashed out that it's only putting out about 80 horses Sadly, that old Astra is no more. It's disturbing habit of going straight on when you turned the steering wheel killed it in the end. |

![]() I didnt mean to appear as though I was completely slagging your car off... Its just, from what I've read in this and other posts its getting like "The R outperformed", "The R is better than", etc. I guess at the end of the day its personal choice as to which car you buy, personally I prefer the ZR over the Civic... The Civic is a nice car and is no doubt fast. Just getting a little bored of the R is better then the ZR ![]() Typing at 2am when your falling asleep is not good, maybe I will re-write it in the morning. I hope this makes sense.

Is this the ST170 that has yet to appear, or am I thinking of the RS Focus? Think its the latter, tbh. Still, 10bhp difference isn't much of the 160, it'll be interesting to compare! ![]() I agree about the 0-100 times though, I suspect the R is quicker than the TF in that respect, as the extra bhp will help. I suspect it would be close though, depends how much the R weighs.

Steve
The ST 170 is here, it takes almost 9 secs to get to 60. 30-70 in 8.4 and can't crack 130! The reson i hate them is that i had saved up to get a Cooper-S. When i found out that its not very quick either and i would have to wait till next FEB! for deliverly. So my "Friend" who works at Halewood (Jag) got me a very early test drive. He had told me just "how good" ST was going to be. He is not a performance driver and was very un happy when i told him how painfully SLOW it was. Only after he test driven my 306 GTI-6 did he suss that they had a dog on there hands. Ford are going to find it VERY hard going to sell them at anything upto £19,000 a CAR! If you want goer with good value, get an MG. If you want top Dog get a Type"R". Ford don't have a hope next to the likes of the "R" or ZR. The few who have got given them on contract hire are not impressed either! Did you see the "XR3 IS BACK" in Autocar a few weeks ago? No way this car is going to be massive, the Type "R" and Cooper-S are! Beno, No problem,I did think of getting a ZR 160. It has it's good points, but for very little more i got Recaro seats and a snicky 6 speed box and.........a KILLER Engine! Cheers Mike.8) |
