Blackberry.

Hi guys.

Just a quick question not sure if any of you can answer this. I'm buying a Blackberry today, unused new but want to stick a PAYG sim in as its just for email while I am out and about and can't justify the expense if its not used fully.

Spoke to O2 who said no...do you want a contract though...
Spoke to Vodafone who said yes, you just can't get settings for them.

I know Vodafone are referring to the automatic settings rather than manual entry, so surely you should be able to set them up directly through the phone. Which I am proficient at on other handsets.

The woman at Vodafone said, frankly she didn't know. Anyone ever heard of a blackberry on PAYG? or any reason why it shouldn't work?

Hope you guys can help.. You would be on my special Christmas card list if you did

it would work as a phone - but not sure how you would get push email with out a domino/exchange service.

Maybe some of the other providers like T-mobile offer push mail with a tmobile.com email address?

Thanks emps, going to look at that now. Thats what I thought with the server but they do it for the E91 using the same push service with Blackberry. Thats what I can't understand and none of these companies I have spoke too today have seen capable of giving me a straight answer. Just...you might run into problems.. like thats an answer.. a yes, no or don't know.. so infuriating lol

Thanks anyway buddy, will try T mobile now

as far as I knew, as "Blackberry" and the whole Push-Email thing was a data service provided by the service provider, it was only available on Contract.

I could be wrong, the only Blackberry's ive dealt with are company contract ones.

I'm sure its possible. i reckon 02 would offer you a cheap data package and an "@o2.co.uk" email address.

I would consider a N95 or something along those lines - even my K800i has the ability to pick up pop3 mail every x amount of minutes - and its a lot lighter on the pocket than my current blackberry!
