mgtf- central locking problems.

hi, was looking for sum advice. Just bought a 4 year old mgtf. After one day of assuming the central locking was working we presumed it was in fact broken (it has a fob which also works the alarm). we returned it to the garage were we bought it where they apparently ordered a part and were taking it to mg rover for it to be fitted.

we have just got it back wer they have told us infact the car does NOT have central locking at all. The story they have gave us is that when rover wer going bust they put watever parts they had into the cars therefore our car has some parts for central locking but not all!!. Apparently they can tell which cars are meant to have central locking and which arnt by the colour co-ordination of the door handles. If the handles are the same colour as the bodywork then it has central locking, if not then it doesnt. (my car has black handles with grey bodywork therefore isnt meant to have central locking).

we just wondered if we were being spun a tale?. I find it ridiculous to think a 4 year old car does not have some sort of central locking.

Please any advice would be appreciated as iam an mg virgin!!!x

They are correct, it sounds like you have a 115 (1.6 engine)?

CL can be retro fitted by installing the motors and switching CL on in the ECU (sometimes this is already switched on)

Yes you were being 'spun a tale'....... the Spec of the TF115 had nothing to do with MG-R going bump!!

The TF 115 (1.6L) is the base model of the TF range, to keep the price down and make it affordable as possible the spec was kept very basic hence 1.6 engine, no CL, no rear speakers, unpainted mirrors/vents etc...

however many 115 owners have fitted CL to their cars without to much trouble.
