oh yes, i'm another

ive got a x reg 1.4k 45 which im certain is suffering from signs of head gasket failure (increased steam from exhaust, falling coolant levels, mayo gunk in expansion tank). just wondered if there is a strengthened or improved head gasket for the 1.4? or am i in for repetative failure?

any help would be great, rich.

Not another with head gasket failure!

OK. The head gasket you want is the Landrover one that looks like this:

That is a much better design and should help prevent the problem happening again! There is also a shim that goes on top of the head gasket itself:

The first picture also shows a redesigned oil rail which is what the head bolts go into and its designed to strengthen everything and lessen any movement of the head.

The gasket can be used without the improved oil rail though but thought i'd mention it.

As far as i'm aware, the gasket is the same for the 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 k series engines.

Others here may know more than me but its a start for you!

Mark

PS I'm stealing your pictures again dr dave!!!

Not sure on prices but its made by landrover so i guess they sell it! You need to tell them its the newest designed head gasket thats for the k-series engine. Its used on the landrover freelander 1.8. The gasket is the same for all k series engines (1.4, 1.6 and 1.8).

May be costly from them but at least its the proper one!

You only get the head skimmed if its warped surely?!

If you have caught the head gasket quick enough and it hasnt overheated it shouldnt need skimming..
