The black bit you have already unthreaded is the sensor !!
The other white bit you are looking at in the gearbox is the drive and it just has the cog underneath it .
Its unlikely to be the drive thats at fault so really unless you really want to check the cog in the gearbox you can just replace the bolt youve taken out of that and leave it.

The Black bit in your picture is the actual transducer / sensor and its this that you need to change , but sometines its either just the earth that goes to a connector under the gearbox thats coroded or loose .

It could also just be the connector iffy on the topo of the transducer , clean it with some wd40 .
Inside the trandsducer you will / should see a black matchstick sized piece of plastic that fits into the drive as a cable would do , this spins the magnet inside working the sensor - it is sometimes these that snap.

I have a spare working tranducer somewhere if you realy are struggling to find one , never needed it in the end and you could have it for cost (£10.00) think there way over that from rover , I also have a spare drive & speedo , its a long story LOL .

Best of luck - try cleaning it all up and check the connectors and especially any loose earth leads surprisig how easy rain water gets in these , mines now all siliconed up ; ).
