Unhappy Pre-shared Key For Wlan?? Mobile Phone Wifi Question

Hi, just bought myself a N80 off ebay, it detects my Sky Wifi but then asks for a Pre-shared Key for WLAN does anyone know where to find this? I tried using the different codes on the underneath of my router but that didn't work, so it m must have something to do with the key that my router is operating on??? I've got no idea how to find this, any ideas would be very much welcome as I can't do anything with my new mobile

It should be the network key that's printed on the bottom of your router. I'v never setup an N80 so can't help much more than that I'm afraid

Hi and thanks gotenks, yep i've tried that, no luck i'm afraid ( Does anyone else use their wifi with their mobile phone? Also some like cybercafes, mcdonalds have wifi in the cities, so the key must be different, do they present it on the menu or something?

I've just managed to connect my XDA Mini S to my wifi with no problems. Does your phone have a comms manager or something similiar? I went into that, turned my wifi on and then went into wifi settings. It then said that it had found a network, gave me the option to connect and enter my key. My mate's got an N80 connected to work using wifi, I'll check with him Monday if you haven't sorted it by then

Who originally setup your wireless router.

The WEP/WPA PSK will not be printed anywhere on the outside in 99% of cases.

What password did you have to put in on your computer to get it attached to the WLAN? (and I don't mean type it into the thread )

Unless you have a Sky supplied router then the SSID, key and channel details are printed on a label on the bottom Scary stuff

The default user name and password to access a Sky router is admin and sky. With that you should be able to get in and see the key in question. If you're not sure how to access the router PM me and I'll send you some details.

Isn't that due to the quality of customer who signs up to Sky broadband

And who leaves it as factory set anyway?

(or am I expecting too much?)

In my experience Stu most people don't change it because they don't know how to. I always use the longest most random key I can generate. The Sky supplied ones can be found very easily using any dictionary based software

Sites like this can help http://www.pctools.com/guides/password/

Same as the BT home hub. I kid you not. Even worse is that they use a WEP key by default, even though the router is WPA2 capable.

The best password generator I have come across is Steve Gibson's at www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Never in our lifetime will it generate the same one twice.

Yes Stu I agree that is the best site I've come across for password generation.

The podcasts he does are excellent as well for anyone who wants to know about all things security related.

They can be understood by the novice, but still be enlightening to the IT security experts too.

Although I have got a bit behind with them lately
