Arrow MG TF135 2003 Head Gasket replacement - Curgy's car!

Following on from James's TF's unexplained coolant loss, we are changing the cylinder head gasket as a precautionary basis.

2003 and 31,000 miles, it's prime time for the gasket to fail big style if the consensus of opinion is heeded.

I changed the cambelt and water pump about 6-8 months ago, no external leaks are evident.

The cylinder head is off, I'll pop out and take some pictures in a mo! Parts everywhere!! James, don't look........

My car!! What have you done!? I only brought it in for an oil change

Oh, and can you be sure to take a look to see what the whining noise is from the drivers side of the engine please. (as you have to take the cambelt off anyway)

30K on an 03 plate TF is about prime mileage for HGF sadly, so perhaps even if the HG is not the cause of a leak, it doubtless would have been very soon!...

no skim then Dave?Which gasket are you fitting ? Is it true that if fitting the LR gasket a skim is required because of the thicker gasket lowering compression and the skim evens that out?

Skim? Why??

Fitting a Payen BW750 gasket - the one I always fit and the only non-mls gasket I endorse.

Certainally no need for a skim. No wonder there are so many well-off machine shop owners out there!

I lifted the head and left it at that. Will clean up and inspect either later today or failing that, tommorrow.
