Broken Mirror Glass
Whilst in work tonight some moron hit my wing mirror, and I wasn't around when it happened so I have no clue who it was.
The mirror body itself is fine- not a scratch on it, but the glass has shattered. Question: Is it just a case of replacing the glass? If so, how do I go about it? I know you can buy cheap stick on ones at Halfords and the like, but I'd prefer the real thing- so where is the best place to get it? Also, would it be cheaper just to buy a whole new mirror from the scrappies? And as I doubt it will be the same colour as my ZR, would it be possible to substitute the glass, or would I need to change the motors over and everything? (they're electric mirrors see) Thanking yooos |

eBay.
Mirrors will cost about £10 in a scrappy When I smashed my wing mirror I don't know what happened to the glass it just dissapeared, but I was too worried about driving off without being seen. Last edited by RedRoverJ; 21-04-2008 at 00:18. |

P.S. I think it is possible to change the glass, which is when it probably becomes easier to just buy the glass from eBay.

Thats for the whole mirror? Not just the glass?
Christ thats cheaper than I thought! I don't really want to wait on eBay, so I may just try and pick a second hand one up from the scrap yard tomorrow! Thanks ![]() Will it be a case of just changing the glass though, or the glass AND the electric mirror mechanism? |

Is this what you were referring too?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rover-25-45-MG...QQcmdZViewItem If so, it would probably to cheaper to get it from a scrappie then- and quicker! I don't get this bit though: Comes complete with backing plate which clips on to your original mirror |

the mirror glass will need some teasing into the clips with a thin long flathead.

the colour coded cap off the mirors pops off anyway, so if you get one in the wrong colour, you can just swap the covers over.

Not pushing home hard enough - you need to kind of hook one side in and then push the otherside down at the corners (presuming heated and electric, but principal should be the same for all)

I've just had a determined fiddle with them both and I now have two secure mirror glasses! They've been like this for months and secured with two post office rubber bands as a reminder to the wife how wide the car is! Last time she did it she left the mirror glass swinging down on the wires and scratching the door. She'll have to go! Thanks again Chris |

![]() tis well fiddly to put back in as well, so makes it doubly frustrating. At around £6 a time to replace the mirror, it's really annoying ![]() Don't think this will help much for heated mirrors though. |
