fitting mgf light, wont come on with interior light

Starting a new thread rather than keeping hijacking old ones, I have searched but can't find an answer on the forum

Wired it up in accordance too the rovertech thread..

http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewt...254506b2985c24

purple to purple / red

Green to purple wire

black to black

I can switch on the lights with the switches on the mirror but the lights wont come on via the door switch. I have checked both purple and green are receiving 12volts

Any one any ideas?

Thanks in advance

If you got it set up right, speak to Skrib as he has one in his car. He might be able to advise you better

just checked the guide on the zr forum and no mention of the wire just black, purple, red/purple. It says there is a green whit wire in the mgf mirror that connects to the purple wire in the a pillar

Cheers mate, looks like I'm correctly wired up according to the guides but it still wont come on with the interior light, dispite both the green and the purple receiving 12v. Does it say on the guide what the wires should be getting?

The purple wire is a permanent 12V feed from the battery (this is so you can manually turn the lights on and off regardless of ignition switch position).

The purple/red wire is connected to the MFU (multifunction unit) and this is what does the dimming.

In normal use if you put a multimeter across this red/purple wire, it will show 12V line to earth but the light wont be on as it is the MFU that puts this red/purple wire to earth when it is triggered by the door pins (the doors pins are just earths to tell the MFU when a door is opened).

When a door is opened, the MFU then pits the red/purple wire to earth completeinig the circuit and puting the interior light on. To dim the light, the MFU begins to increase the resistance on the wire, reducing the volatge and dimming the light until the resistance on the red/purple wire is effectively so high that it reads as open circuit.

If you are sure you have got the wiring to the TF mirror correct, I would suggest swapping the connections to the purple and red/purple wires around to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the input, I'll have a go when I get the chance. Any idea what the green wire up the drivers 'A' pillar is for?

Thanks

Came to do this today and have a problem

Wires in the MGF mirror

Purple
Purple/Red tracer
Solid black wire

Wires in the door pillar
Thick black with the interior light wires inside
Green wire
Black wire

I have connected the mirror as follows

purple to purple
purple/red to purple/red

I have a black wire in the mirror, and a green wire in the A pillar. Can i connect these together, so i can have the lights in the mirror switched on/off when i want them?

With how i have connected them at the moment, the lights come on with the doors open, and dim/turn off etc.

Where am i going wrong??

Idiots guide for install please!!!

Cheers
Dave

Far, far easier to wire the mirror straight back to the courtesy light.

Use a straightened wire coat hanger to pull the mirror wiring through the headlining to the courtesy light

The light fitting should have two wires, a Purple and a Purple/Red, these connect to the same colours from the mirror.

The courtesy light is grounded via one of it's fixing bolts, the Black wire from the mirror needs to be grounded by the same fixing.

Job done.

The Green and Black wires in the A pillar are part of the sunroof circuit.

Many thanks mate, worked a treat

So to sumerise:

Connect the purple wires to the corresponding colour wire within the courtesy light, and screw the black wire to the bodywork

Here are a few pics:

Hope this helps.

Well tackled this this afternoon and I'm still no further on, 1 question should I be getting 12v on both purple and the purple/red wires, if so that may be what my problem is.

Tried earthing the black direct to the roof and got the lights on permanently, I then tried swapping the wires over and that took me back to square one

Trying to do this in the rain so all answers welcome....
