Fault code reader

Can anyone suggest where I can get hold of a fault code reader/diagnostic tool for my 1999/2000 75 2.5 V6 and how much I could expect to pay for it? Cheers.

That's slightly tricky, as you car doesn't fully comply with the 2001 OBDII/EOBD2 legislation - but having said that, it's quite possible/probably that you will be able to get a few sensor readings, fault codes etc. off it.

You need to decide if you want to go down the laptop/interface route, or the handheld route.

If laptop route, have a look at any ELM327 based systems, for example, from Gendan, or ElmScan5 (beware there are many many many ELM327 fakes on ebay).

If handheld route, something like the U581 device is ok.

The above will cost you less than 80 quid.

Thats assuming you don't want to go down the Omitec T4 route.....

Have a read on Rover Ron's website: http://tuning-diesels.com/Eobd/eobd2.htm

His CR2 and CR2 code scanners are excellent value.

Personal preference, plus some limitations.

The geek in me likes the laptop screen to produce graphs etc., which a handheld would not be able to do, on it's small and limited LCD screen.

edit: RoverRon's CR2 is a U581 device
