"How To" Adjust the boot light within the latch mechanism on 200/25/ZR/SW
Here's another little "How To" guide to a common problem.
![]() If your boot light doesn't work when you open the hatchback this may be the answer to your problem...... but before you do this make sure that the bulb and the connections on the bulb holder are all ok. ![]() Tools needed: 1x medium flat scredriver. Step one: Open the hatchback and at the bottom in the centre you'll see the locking mechanism covered by a plastic cover. On the rear of the cover you'll see a small rectangular peg which holds the cover on, you can see it in the pic below. Use the flat screwdriver to gently pull the cover away from the rectangular peg and then pull the cover down to remove it. Mine was a tight fit and I had to wiggle it slightly from side to side to remove it. Once removed you'll see something like this. The arrow is pointing to the problem. This copper strip has bent out of position over time. The easy way of bending it back into position is to use your screwdriver to close the mechanism (like it would be when the hatch has been shut). Insert the screwdriver into the mechanism and rotate it until it locks closed. Now you can bend the copper strip, you need to bend it downwards in the direction of the arrow. Don't bend it too far, this should be about enough for it to work. Now press the silver button on the hatchback, the one that opens it and....... hey presto the contact should be made and the light should be on. ![]() Now all you need to do is slide the plastic cover back over the locking mechanism and you're all done. ![]() I hope that this little guide helps someone out and apologies for the poor pictures, the camera was on the wrong setting. Any questions please post them on this thread or pm me. Thanks, Ian. P.S: If your mechanism is making a good contact your problem might be due to a wiring fault, this is usually where the wiring enters the hatchback near the hinge. My wiring is begining to become damaged with the opening and closing of the boot so this will probably be the next "How To" unless it has already been done. Boot warning light
Thank you for this information, excellent help.
My problem is slightly different. The boot warning light is staying on but the boot is closed properly. The boot used to pop open on bumps but I have had the boot lock reassembled a year or two ago and have no further problems with this. Recently, however, the boot warning light remains on and on checking the boot I have noticed the boot light remains on even when closed. Is it possible that my problem is the reverse to the light not coming on? Should I adjust the contact the other way? With thanks. |

I removed the cover and found a 1 inch brass bolt loose in the lock. I cannot see any which would suggest a missing bolt and can only assume that the bolt has been left in by other means, possibly when the garage rebuilt the lock. The boot light is off now and it will just be a case of following your instructions.
I could not repair the light this time as the 25 broke down. It is running again but the revs on idel are too high. Once again thanks |

Hi,
worked great the bending costs some time but the rest is easy. You said to lock it first bij using the screwdriver before bending it but you forgot to mention how to unlock it in order to lock the boot when ready. But other than that THANKYOU!!! |
