Progress report

Have made the most of the good weather this weekend and have removed the old gearbox, fitted the new AP clutch and cover and waved the magic hammerite wand at some of the corrosion.

After

For those of you worried about my corrosion problem, things are starting to look a lot more shiny.

Taking it apart into quite so many pieces is a very extreme way to make sure the hammerite covers everything

I love seeing all your stripped down pics

Looks good

Out of curiosity and then need to do a rather large selection of bits How much Hammerite did you need to do all that?

I wish. The project is a long way off yet. I am going to have to organise taking my engine down to Suffolk to get the conversion done, now that I have all the bits.

Not much really. Bought a medium sized (or biggest they do in Halfords) tin of black and a medium small blue. Still got loads left.

No, but I'm having some dynamic balancing, the head gas flowing, a bit of machining and a 1.9L conversion done. All in all about £1200 worth of work. I have had to save up while buying all the bits they need to do the work, including flywheel, clutch cover, bolts, crankshaft, pistons etc etc.

You forget, I'm in the same boat

Actually, Misty does look a bit like a boat at the mo (taken a few days ago):

Nothing is escaping the Hammerite brush.

Was surprised that the clutch slave cylinder was cast iron rather than aluminium. Anyway, a bit of wire brushing and a slap of paint later.

The latest to get the wire brush and hammerite treatment are:

The coolant pipes. Quite corroded and one of the brackets is almost rusted through. Should be OK as it isn't load bearing and is still ok.

Sprayed with dark blue hammerite, surprised how close the colour is to Royal Blue, looks ighter in the pic.

The starter mtor is quite badly corroded too. It has now been wire brushed and the ally has been sprayed with clear laquer. Will hammerite the body tomorrow.
