Crankshaft pulley, how to remove?where to buy?
A few days ago the aircon compressor of my Rover 75 Diesel M47 suddenly seized. The belt burned away but also the crankshaft pulley didn't survive the event.
I have a terrible noise now at idle coming from the pulley.( at higher speeds no problem and the car runs and pulls as always.) The concentric rubber damper in the pulley was apparently damaged by the sudden shock and the pulley comes in resonance at idle. So I have to replace the pulley. Is this possible without the special tool needed to avoid the crankshaft from turning around? Where can I find a used pulley for a good price? best regards and thx pallieter Ghent belgium |

Removing the crankshaft pulley is always difficult. It's on very tight indeed. The usual first shot is to put it in third or fourth gear and get an assistant to hold down the brake pedal while you work on the pulley bolt. You must have a good quality, well fitting single hex socket and an extension bar.
New pullies can be obtained from Rimmer Brothers in Lincoln. Click: http://rimmerbros.richfx.com.edgesui...media/mgrover/ Part number LHG100750 Torsional vibration damper - crankshaft They post into Europe. TC |

I recently made up a pulley holding tool out of a strip of steel and some nuts/bolts/washers (B&Q special). Absolute dodddle to use - Haynes manuals tell you what to do. With my new holding tool to stop the pulley turning and my breaker bar to loosen the bolt things went fine.

Sounds good. I think you were lucky. These pully bolts are usually so tight that slackening them could be considered dangerous. I've read of very hairy methods being used to coax them off.
