Purchased a new car to replace the TF on the driveway

I have kept this quiet but I was driving back from town last weekend in my TF when I saw an offer I couldn't say no to. I made a spare of the moment purchase in which my brother forked up half of the money so we actually own half each - We have already started arguing over whose day it is! It cost us £20 and we haven't looked back. We actually checked the market value when we got back to the house and its £350! so could have sold it straight on.

It was in need of TLC so we got straight to work and refurbished the wheels, re-sprayed the front end and did a little detailing to the rear over the saturday and sunday then spent evenings after work bringing it to its current state.

I've never attempted this sort of project before but thought it would be the perfect way to get into it. We have even managed to pick up a second hand engine to transplant this weekend - weather permitting which will give us a decent increase in all round performance.

Anyway here it is with before and after photos:

Before and After:

The work being carried out:

Nearly Finished:

Unfortunately my brother got caught speeding through the town and ended up with 2 police cars, 8 policemen and other town centre security on him (I'm actually being serious for once! 8 Police turned up to because the town centre security thought he was "driving recklessly". Luckily I work down the road from the town so ran up and spoke to the police. All but one were very reasonable and said its the funniest thing they have seen and wanted a go! Unfortunately the unreasonable one wanted it put on a tow truck with a £100 fine and also 3 points on my brothers driving license for dangerous driving! After 15 minutes of talking between the police station and the one policeman they let him go with a caution and he was ordered to push it home!):

We aren't finished yet - We want red centres on the wheels

Did you know you can drink and drive one of these things?! The police confirmed it Aslong as you stick to the pavement the highway code doesn't come into force!

And the police wonder why they are not popular

Strange thing is they wanted to put points on your brothers licence yet you don't need a driving licence to drive one - where is the logic in that

And 8 of them attend meanwhile any other urgent call is kept waiting while they faff about.

Three people that need to get a hobby in their life, two brothers and one police officer.........

Still, fun I suppose, I was actually run into by one of those things, hurt my calf like hell, the guy was drunk and the police took it away for a week or so but he got it back... shame really, a menace on small wheels, the guy has got to be 75...

I think you and your brother are hot favourites for one of the events at MG Fest! Organising committee will have to discuss a handicap for experienced mobility scooter drivers!!

Brilliant thread!!

Now I'd be sending that picture to the local papers and showing the masses where the police's priorities really are. Glad you got off with just a rollicking.

Fantastic thread guys -

However on my days out I have noticed more and more elderly people riding around in those things - making walking on the pavement like trying to cross the m25!

And the speed they go....................

I nearly had to stand up to rant then from my comfy arm chair, slippers and leg warming blanket doh my cocoa has gone cold - bah!

Must dig out the c5 modification pics we did at Uni!

My son and I were watching in amusement recently when we saw two OAP's (sorry, Senior Citizens!) clearly having a race in their mobility scooters!

Someone should offer them a track day!

It is driving - just on the pavement - so all the emotions of driving are going to apply. Mmmm wonder what mods you can get

We have already purchased a golf cart motor capable of 20-25-mph which just needs fitting - The current speed is just 4-5mph. I also have some knight rider lights - I bought them for my old car as a joke thing but never fitted them. Just working out on where to fit them.

We did start writing an email to the local papers but it needs tweeking if we get some time this afternoon and then we will send it.

I sent emails out first thing this morning to all the local papers and a few national ones and within 15mins we had phonecalls from all the local ones and the sun! A couple of the local ones are coming to take some photos at 3pm today so should hit this weeks paper. I will be pasting the articles up if they make it in the paper!
